Indiana Cross Country to Open Season at Redhawk Rumble

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The 2022 Cross Country season will officially begin this weekend as the Hoosiers head to Miami (OH) for the Redhawk Rumble.

The first of five regular season meets will see six men and eight women represent IU on the Cross-Country course.
Â
A year after the COVID-19 pandemic forced both the 2020-2021 and Fall 2021 seasons into the same calendar year, the Hoosiers return to a normal schedule in the 2022-2023 school year for both Cross Country and Track and Field.

The Hoosiers were fourth on the men's side and fifth on the women's side at the 2021 Big Ten Cross Country Championships.
Â
The women return four of their five-point scorers from the Big Ten meet while the men return three.
Â
Alyssa Skorge will lead a team of eight women into Oxford, Ohio this weekend. She owns a 5K personal best in Cross Country of 18:16.6 and was a member of the Big Ten team last year.

Katelyn Winton and Claire Overfelt are set to make their collegiate debuts for the Hoosiers.

On the men's side, the 2021 Big Ten Cross Country Freshman of the Year, Gabriel Sanchez, helps lead a team of six runners into the first meet of the season.

Among those making their collegiate debuts includes Abe Eckman, who was fifth at the 2021 IHSAA Cross Country Championships, and Cole Raymond, sixth at last year's IHSAA Cross Country Meet.

Saturday's races are set for 9:30 AM (Men's 8K) and 10:15 AM (Women's 5K).
