Indiana Wrestling to Compete in 2022 Garden State Grapple

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. –––– Indiana Wrestling head coach Angel Escobedo has announced the team will compete in the second annual Garden State Grapple, presented by Spartan Combat, as part of the non-conference schedule in the 2022-23 season.
"Our team is excited and grateful for the opportunity to compete in the Garden State Grapple," Escobedo said. "We are thankful for all the hard work being put into organizing this event and we look forward to competing against some great teams."
The marquee non-conference event will take place on Sunday, Dec. 4 at the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J. The 2022 Garden State Grapple features matchups pitting teams from the Big Ten Conference against the Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association (EIWA).
Indiana's opponents in the event include Drexel and Binghamton. This will be the Hoosiers' first appearance in the event.
The Garden State Grapple features 45 returning NCAA Championships qualifiers and 15 All-Americans.

Indiana's Opponent History
Indiana's dual with Drexel will mark the second time ever that the programs will face off for a dual match, and the first since 2013. Last season, Drexel notched a 6-8 record and earned 10th place at the EIWA Championships while having two NCAA Qualifiers.
The Indiana-Binghamton dual will be the third ever dual match between the two teams and the first since 2017. In the 2021-22 campaign, Binghamton was 7-11, earned sixth place at the EIWA Championships and had four NCAA Qualifiers.
