CHICAGO – The Indiana Hoosiers men's golf team is tied for fifth with the No. 5-ranked Arizona State Sun Devils at the OFCC/Fighting Illini Invitational at the Olympia Fields Country Club after one round of play on Friday afternoon.

No. 15 Stanford (270; -10) leads the team standings through 18 holes, while No. 11 Illinois (271; -9) is in second heading into the second round.

• Senior Eric Berggren started strong with three birdies in his first 10 holes and finished the opening round at 71 (+1).
• Senior Noah Gillard (71; +1) turned in a steady scorecard with birdie conversions on No. 2, No. 14 and No. 15.
• Junior Drew Salyers matched Berggren and Gillard for the lowest Hoosier round of the day with a 71 (+1) after birdies on two of his final eight holes of the day.
• Junior Clay Merchent sank a pair of birdie tries in the first round to finish the day at 72 (+2).
• Fifth-year senior Mitch Davis wrapped up the first round at 76 (+6).
