
Indiana Falls in Conference Opener 3-0 to No. 9 Penn State

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The journey through the Big Ten is officially underway after a 3-0 defeat for the Indiana Volleyball team (7-6, 0-1) at the hands of No. 9 Penn State on Friday evening.
A tough-opening set was followed by back-to-back competitive frames as Penn State pulled out a 25-17, 25-21, 25-23 victory over IU inside Rec Hall.
The Hoosiers were led by Mady Saris in attack (14 kills, .250 hitting percentage) with strong games from Paula Cerame and Savannah Kjolhede allowing IU to put up a competitive fight in the conference opener.
IU's attention turns to Maryland on Sunday afternoon (1:00 PM) in the final of 11-staight road matches.
SET 1 (Penn State 25, Indiana 17)
• Mady Saris provided a kill early in the first set as the Hoosiers pulled within one point at 6-5.
• Melisa Ilter provided a much-needed kill off the assist from Camryn Haworth to stop the Penn State run and bring IU within 16-9.
• A kill from Mady Saris and a service ace from Camryn Haworth got momentum rolling for IU late in the set down 21-15.
• Penn State would ultimately take the first set 25-17.
SET 2 (Penn State 25, Indiana 21)
• Candela Alonso-Corcelles provided a kill as the Hoosiers jumped out to a 5-2 lead in the second set.
• Mady Saris stopped the Penn State run with a kill to bring IU within four points at 21-17.
• Penn State grabbed the second set 25-21.
SET 3 (Penn State 25, Indiana 23)
• The Hoosiers jumped out to 10-8 lead with Morgan Geddes and Mady Saris leading the way in the early stages of the frame.
• Mady Saris had an emphatic kill after a pair of Penn State errors as IU went on a 4-0 run in the middle of the third.
• IU held a 20-18 lead in the frame, but Penn State would hold on to win 25-23 to close out the match.
