Hoosiers Within Striking Distance on Monday

SKOKIE, Ill. – The Indiana Hoosiers men's golf team is tied for sixth with Big Ten rival Northwestern at the Windon Memorial Classic at the Evanston Golf Club on Monday. The Hoosiers shot a 568 (282-286; +8) through the first 36 holes of play.
The top of the leaderboard is bunch up with the top seven programs all within 12 strokes of the lead. Kent State (556; -4) holds the early edge, while Marquette (557; -3) and Memphis (559; -1) are all under par for the tournament.

• Junior Drew Salyers leads the Hoosier squad through two rounds after shooting a 141 (71-70; +1). His second-round 70 (E) consisted of three birdies. Salyers played a card of 71 (+1) in the first round of the tournament with three birdies on the front nine.
• Fifth-year senior Mitch Davis fired a 142 (68-74; +2) on Monday. During the second round, he carded a team-best 15 pars on his way to a 74 (+4). Davis turned in a scorecard of 68 (-2) with three birdies during the first round of play.
• Senior Noah Gillard carded a day-one 143 (73-70; +3). The former Center Grove Trojan carded a pair of birdies during his round of 70 (E). Gillard shot a 73 (+3) in the opening round with a birdie on No. 9.
• Junior Clay Merchent secured a 143 (71-72; +3) on opening day. The Noblesville, Ind., native put home three birdie tries on his second-round 72 (+2). Merchent made a team-best four birdies in the first round to shoot a 71 (+1).
• Graduate transfer Thomas Hursey played a 146 (72-74; +6) on Monday. The Ferris State transfer put together a team-high four birdies in his second round of 74 (+4). Hursey made a pair of birdie putts in his opening-round 72 (+2).
• Senior Eric Berggren teed off as an individual and shot a 147 (75-72; +7). His second round of 72 (+2) included two birdies. Berggren made back-to-back birdies late in the opening round to finish at 75 (+5).
