Scoring Spree Shoots IU Past Northwestern in 4-1 Win

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – After Northwestern (1-6-2, 0-3-0 B1G) opened the scoring in the 48th minute, Indiana men's soccer (4-2-2, 1-1-1 B1G) responded with three goals in the span of 2 minutes and 33 seconds on its way to a 4-1 win over the Wildcats Tuesday (Sept. 27) night on Jerry Yeagley Field at Bill Armstrong Stadium.
Indiana's first goal came about a minute after Northwestern's opener from the left foot of redshirt junior midfielder Quinten Helmer. IU added goals in the 50th, 52nd and 77th minutes to complete the comeback win and earn an important three points in Big Ten Conference play.
KEY MOMENTS
• Indiana dominated the first half, posting nine shots and forcing five saves from Northwestern's graduate goalkeeper Christian Garner. Garner made a few impressive stops to keep the Hoosiers scoreless through 45 minutes.
• 48' – Junior forward Justin Weiss opened the scoring for Northwestern against the run of play, curling a shot from distance past the keeper and into the far top corner.
• 49' – IU stayed composed and worked an equalizer moments later. Sophomore forward Tommy Mihalic dribbled into the box from the left wing and passed towards the top of the 18. Senior forward Herbert Endeley dummied for Helmer, who took a couple touches before finishing with his left foot.
• 50' – Less than another minute gone, the Hoosiers were ahead. This time, redshirt senior forward Ryan Wittenbrink came down the left flank and found Endeley wide open in the box. Endeley finished with his left and gave IU the advantage.
• 52' – The rebound of two blocked shots fell to senior forward Karsen Henderlong inside the six-yard box. Henderlong punched it home, and IU suddenly had a two-goal lead.
• 77' – Wittenbrink had been close to a goal of his own all night, and he finally put it away in the 77th minute. The redshirt senior took sophomore forward Samuel Sarver's through ball into the box toward the end line, cut back and rocketed his shot into the far side netting.

• Indiana earned its 798th victory all-time.
• IU is now undefeated in 14 straight home matches going back to the 2021 season. The Hoosiers are 12-0-2 in that span.
• Indiana's record is now 36-3-7 all-time versus Northwestern, and the victory extended its winning streak against the Wildcats to five matches. The Hoosiers have won 10 of the last 11 games versus Northwestern.
• Helmer and Henderlong each scored their first goals of the season as well as their first-career goals for IU. Indiana has totaled 16 goals through eight matches this season coming from 10 unique goal scorers.
• Wittenbrink scored his fourth goal of the season and the 13th of his career. He leads IU in goals (4) and points (10) as he earned his second assist of the season as well Tuesday night.
• Endeley also recorded one goal and one assist Tuesday. He's tied for second on the team in scoring (2) and is solely in second in the assists (3) and points categories (7).
• Senior defender Nyk Sessock earned his team-leading fourth assist in contribution to Endeley's goal. Sessock has assisted a score in back-to-back matches.
• Mihalic and Sarver each earned their first assists of the season.
