Indiana Volleyball Awaits Top-10 Test Against No. 6 Ohio State

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - After dispatching of Iowa in straight sets (25-16, 25-10, 25-20) on Wednesday, the Indiana Volleyball team (9-6, 2-1) faces a quick turnaround as No. 6 Ohio State comes to Wilkinson Hall on Saturday evening.
IU's 2-1 start to conference play is the best since Steve Aird's first season in 2018 (also 2-1. With consecutive wins over Maryland and Iowa, the Hoosiers have won back-to-back Big Ten matches for the first time since the 2018 season.
The Hoosiers will face their third ranked opponent of the season (No. 21 Western Kentucky and No. 9 Penn State) but the first inside the confines of Wilkinson Hall.
A Sweet 16 team from a season ago, the No. 6 Buckeyes bring a 6-5 record to Bloomington with three of those victories over top-10 opposition.
Saturday night's match will be streamed via BTN+ with first serve set for 7:00 PM.
The Hoosiers:
• Mady Saris continues her ascent up the charts in the Big Ten, proving to be one of the conference's most prolific attackers. She is third in the Big Ten in kills with 197 including a career high 20 at Maryland.
• Paula Cerame is as steady as they come in the back row. She provided 18 digs in the win over Iowa and has 196 on the season (No. 4 in the Big Ten).
• Camryn Haworth was dynamic against Iowa. She provided 32 assists, 6 kills and 5 digs. On the season she is No. 2 in the conference in assists (501) and No. 3 in service aces (25).
• Morgan Geddes has moved to middle blocker while Kaley Rammelsberg nurses an injury. Geddes had 12 kills and 4 blocks in the win over Iowa on Wednesday.
• Candela Alonso-Corcelles cracked the century mark in kills during her freshman campaign against Maryland. She's got 109 for the season with a season's best and career best of 15 against the Terrapins.
• Isa Lopez and Grae Gosnell have slotted into the back row in set rotations and have provided instant impact for the Hoosiers. The duo combined for 15 digs on Wednesday night against Iowa.
• Savannah Kjolhede was brilliant from the end line against Iowa, serving the Hoosiers on a 12-0 run in the second set to win the frame 25-10.
• The Hoosiers had 11 service aces in back-to-back games with Savannah Kjolhede and Paula Cerame combining for 10 of those.
• IU is looking for its first ranked win since 2019 (No. 15 Kentucky) and the first ranked win at home since 2018 (No. 14 Michigan). The Hoosiers have never beaten a ranked team at home since moving to Wilkinson Hall before the 2019 season.
The Opposition:
• The Buckeyes have started the season 6-5 while playing a brutal schedule inside and outside the conference. 8-of-11 matches for Ohio State have come against ranked opponents with victories over No. 3 Louisville, No. 10 BYU and No. 5 Pittsburgh.
• Jen Flynn Oldenburg enters her third year at her alma mater. The Buckeyes are coming off a 27-6 season and a trip to the Sweet 16 in 2021.
• Junior opposite Emily Londot is one of the most prolific attackers in the Big Ten and senior defensive specialist Kylie Murr is one of the best ball handlers in the conference.
• The Buckeyes defeated rival Michigan 3-1 on Wednesday night in Ann Arbor. Gabby Gonzales paced Ohio State offensively with 22 kills on 54 swings. Mac Podraza provided 48 assists and eight digs in the victory.
