BLOOMINGTON, Ind. ––––– Indiana Men's Tennis is set to begin their 2023 spring season this weekend with a double-header of home matches vs. Dayton and Toledo on Sunday, Jan. 15 at the IU Tennis Center.
The day will start with a dual match vs. Dayton at 11 a.m., followed by a 4 p.m. match vs. Toledo.
The Hoosiers enter the 2023 campaign with a wealth of experience on the roster along with some ultra-talented freshmen. The 13-man club features eight upperclassmen and five freshmen.
IU even boasts three fifth-year seniors in Carson Haskins, Patrick Fletchall and Mac Rogers, all of which are using their extra year of eligibility. Haskins and Fletchall held down the No. 1 and 2 singles spots for the Hoosiers in the majority of the 2022 season.
Consistent singles starters from a year ago in Ilya Tiraspolsky, Luka Vukovic, and Michael Andre also return to the fold.
The team's freshmen include Sam Landau, Andrew Meier, Ekansh Kumar, Luc Boulier and mid-year enrollee Facundo Yunis.
Indiana has quite a bit of momentum built up from the fall schedule, headlined by standout juniors Michael Andre and Ilya Tiraspolsky winning the Big Ten Doubles Title in November. Tiraspolsky and Fletchall also made the round of 16 in the Big Ten Singles Tournament.
Overall, the Hoosiers played in six different fall tournaments to prepare for the spring.
Looking to Sunday, Indiana will face two talented teams in Dayton who went 16-8, and a Toledo team that was 15-9 in the 2022 campaign.
