BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana Track and Field teams got off to a strong start on the first day of the Gladstein Invitational.
Serena Bolden opened the day with a winning effort in the Triple Jump of 12.21m/40-0.75. On her IU debut in the event, she moves into ninth all-time in program history.
Jessica Mercier used a last-chance clearance at 4.03m/13-2.5 and her eventual season-best mark of 4.13m/13-6.5 to finish at the top collegian in the Pole Vault.
Her mark moved her past Rachel Mather (4.05m/13-3.5) and Kara Deady (4.00m/13-1.5) and into seventh place all-time in program history. It also makes her the ninth women's vaulter over four meters indoors for the Hoosiers.
Andrew Anderson raced to a personal best of 51.04 in the 400 meters to finish second in the opening running event of the night for IU.
Emily Herndon threw the weight out to 16.84m/55-3, a season's best and personal best in the event.
Antonio Laidler was victorious at 60 meters with Trelee Banks-Rose in third. After running 6.83 in the prelims, Laidler came back to finish off the field in 6.76 to take the win.
John Colquitt ran a personal best of 8.27 in the prelims of the 60-meter hurdles before bettering that time in the finals to win the event in 8.22.
Nathan Stone was victorious for the third-straight meet, winning with a clearance at 5.35m/17-6.5. He went for three attempts at a would-be personal best of 5.45m/17-10 but couldn't get over the bar.
Noah Koch took the victory in the Men's Weight Throw with a winning mark of 20.05m/65-9.5 on his third attempt. He threw the weight over a meter-and-a-half farther than the rest of the competition.
David Olowookere stormed to a win in the fast section of the Men's 400 meters with a time of 49.01. It marked the second-straight week that he has won the event.
Competition will resume tomorrow morning with the Women's Shot Put, Long Jump and High Jump at 10:45 AM.
