BLOOMINGTON — The MLS Cup Playoffs kick off Wednesday (Oct. 25) in the wild card round, and nine Hoosiers will compete to become champions of the country's top domestic league.
After winning the MLS Supporters' Shield with the top regular season record, FC Cincinnati are the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference. In their first two seasons with the club, head coach Pat Noonan and goalkeeper Roman Celentano have led FCC to its first two playoff appearances. The club emphasized the importance of the two Hoosiers, signing both to contract extensions this month. Celentano led the Eastern Conference in clean sheets during the regular season, recording 12.
Houston Dynamo FC are surging into the playoffs as the No. 4 seed in the Western Conference, thanks in part to the form of Griffin Dorsey. Dorsey scored a brace in Houston's in 3-1 Decision Day win over Portland, earning a spot on the MLS Team of the Matchday for a second time this season. Houston's right back was influential in the club's U.S. Open Cup title earlier this month, scoring the opening goal in the 2-1 victory.
Aidan Morris' breakout season helped the Columbus Crew capture the No. 3 seed in the Eastern Conference. This year, Morris earned his first United State Men's National Team call-up and cap, was named an MLS All-Star and, most recently, trained with the USMNT Olympic Team as it prepares for Paris. Morris ranks second in the league in tackles won (58), third in accurate pass percentage (92.5 - min. 50 percent games played) and tied-for-21st in interceptions (44).
Justin Rennicks and the New England Revolution are the No. 5 seed in the Eastern Conference. Herbert Endeley and FC Dallas (No. 7 seed) and Daniel Munie, Tommy Thompson and the San Jose Earthquakes (No. 9) will compete in the Western Conference bracket.
