UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Indiana men's soccer (3-3-4, 0-1-2 B1G) has a big opportunity Saturday (Oct. 7) when it visits conference co-leader and No. 19-ranked Penn State (6-1-3, 2-0-1 B1G) on Jeffrey Field.
Saturday's match will be televised on the Big Ten Network. Kickoff is set for noon ET.
KICKING OFF
• The Hoosiers have five remaining Big Ten matches in a tightly-packed league. Five points separate co-leaders Penn State and Northwestern (seven apiece) and Indiana (two), each having played three matches.
• Indiana is among the country's elite in two key statistical categories: The Hoosiers rank No. 8 in goals against average (.600) and No. 12 in shots per game (15.8).
• IU and Penn State are the two winningest programs in the Big Ten, respectively, and they are the only programs in the conference with 100 conference wins and 800 wins overall all-time.
ABOUT THE NITTANY LIONS
• Penn State is 6-1-3, 2-0-1 in Big Ten matches and 4-1-1 at home.
• The Nittany Lions are led by sixth-year head coach Jeff Cook, who has compiled a 52-29-15 record at Penn State and a 201-145-59 career record in 23 years as a Division-I head coach.
• Senior Peter Mangione leads the Nittany Lions with four goals as nine different players have scored for Penn State this season.
SERIES HISTORY
• Indiana has historically dominated the matchup, winning 37 of the 57 matches in the series.
• IU has won three of the last four matchups, all played the previous two seasons (2021-22). Last year's matches told two different stories. The regular season matchup ended with six goals. Then, in the Big Ten Tournament, IU just needed on goal to eliminate the Nittany Lions in the opening round.
• Current Hoosiers Brett Bebej and Joey Maher have scored against Penn State. Luka Bezerra owns an assist in his career against the Nittany Lions.
