Indiana Beaten in Five by Minnesota

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Despite winning almost every statistical battle, the Indiana volleyball team (18-11, 8-8) was on the wrong end of a five-set battle (25-13, 30-32, 25-19, 23-25, 12-15) at Wilkinson Hall on Sunday (November 12th) afternoon.
The Hoosiers scored 11 more points than the visiting Golden Gophers in the match but suffered a pair of two-point losses before losing by three in the fifth set. The 62-point second frame was the second time in the past five matches that IU has seen a set go into the 60's.
IU hit .244 as a team but struggled down the stretch. The Hoosiers had 10 aces from the end line but also recorded 13 service errors on the afternoon. Junior setter Camryn Haworth provided a career-high 58 assists while sophomore outside hitter Candela Alonso-Corcelles went for a career-best 24 kills.
Four matches remain in the regular season for IU with visits from Maryland (Friday) and No. 2 Wisconsin (Sunday) before heading to the Michigan schools over Thanksgiving break.

• The Hoosiers fall to 2-4 (1-4) in five-set matches with defeats to Illinois, Northwestern and Minnesota over the past three weeks.
• Led by an efficient .357 clip from graduate student middle blocker Kaley Rammelsberg, the Hoosiers won the offensive charge with 68 kills while hitting .244 as a team.
• IU won the blocking battle with 13 total team stuffs, led by seven from senior middle blocker Savannah Kjolhede and six from Rammelsberg.
• The Hoosiers totaled 10 aces from the end line, the seventh time with 10+ aces as a team this season. Alonso-Corcelles and sophomore opposite hitter Avry Tatum each had three.
#10 Haworth, Camryn
• Haworth was outstanding for the Hoosiers, running an efficient offense while dishing out a career-best 58 assists in the defeat.
• She tallied her ninth double-double of the season with 58 assists and 12 digs. She also had four kills, two blocks and an ace for IU.
• Now with 155 career service aces, Haworth moves into second all-time in program history in aces with a full season to go. She is just 33 away from breaking Jen Magelssen's program record.
#3 Alonso-Corcelles, Candela
• A career offensive day for the sophomore saw her record her sixth double-double of the season with 24 kills and 10 digs.
• Her 24 kills were not only a career high but the most by an IU player since Breana Edwards' 27 kills vs. Rutgers in 2021.
• She balanced out her night with three block assists and three aces from the end line while taking a career-high 65 swings offensively.
#18 Rammelsberg, Kaley
• As consistent as they come, the fifth-year middle blocker provided 13 kills and six blocks in the tight defeat to Minnesota.
• With 13 kills, she passed 1,000 kills for her career. 616 of those have come in the past three seasons after transferring to IU from High Point.

Set 1: Indiana 25, Minnesota 13
• IU came out firing in the first set, hitting .483 with 16 kills. Alonso-Corcelles provided eight kills while Haworth assisted on 14 balls to take a 25-13 win.
• The Hoosiers compiled five aces in the first set, targeting Minnesota's Taylor Landfair from the end line. IU stopped the Gophers' Mckenna Wucherer, forcing Minnesota into an early offensive substitution.
• Tied at seven in the first set, IU blew the frame open with a 7-0 run sparked by a strong run of serve from Haworth. Junior outside hitter Kenzie Daffinee aced Minnesota twice to go up 17-8 in the first.
• Alonso-Corcelles had five of IU's last seven points in the set and joined Kjolhede in closing down Minnesota down the stretch in the first frame.
Set 2: Minnesota 32, Indiana 30
• Continuing a trend of marathon sets, IU dropped a 32-20 second frame as Minnesota fought off four set points to take the victory.
• IU blocked four shots in the frame while Haworth assisted on 16 of IU's 17 kills but it wasn't enough down the stretch. The Hoosiers had two service errors on set points and a blocking error on another.
• Rammelsberg came to life in the second set with five kills and two blocks to keep IU in it. Alonso-Corcelles had five kills as well.
• Down by three at 16-19, IU went on a 6-3 run to tie things at 22-all following a service ace from Alonso-Corcelles. IU had set points at 25-24, 26-25, 28-27 and 29-28 but failed to convert all four times.
• A service error from Tatum and a kill from Minnesota's Julia Hanson handed the Gophers a 32-30 set victory to tie the match.
Set 3: Indiana 25, Minnesota 19
• IU righted the ship in the third set, regaining the momentum after hitting .324 (16-4-37) while digging 20 balls in a 25-19 victory.
• After Minnesota tied things at 12-all, IU closed on a 13-7 run with senior defensive specialist/outside hitter Grae Gosnell closing down the set on a kill out of the back row.
Set 4: Minnesota 25, Indiana 23
• IU played from behind nearly the entire set after going down by four points early. The Hoosiers hit just .158 in the fourth game but were aided by four blocks from Rammelsberg.
• Rammelsberg had a solo block on Minnesota middle blocker Arica Davis to take a 19-18 lead but Minnesota responded on a 7-4 run to send the match to a fifth set.
• Tatum recorded a kill out of the timeout to tie things at 23-all but a kill from Landfair and an ace from Minnesota setter Melani Shaffmaster handed the fourth game to the visitors.
Set 5: Minnesota 15, Indiana 12
• Minnesota came to life defensively in the fifth set with five blocks to turn away IU's offensive effort. Alonso-Corcelles had four kills but also four attacking errors.
• The Hoosiers missed three serves in the final set while Minnesota was perfect from the end line. IU went up 11-10 in the fifth set but a missed serve from Kjolhede sparked a 5-1 run for Minnesota to end the match.
