
Hoosiers Serve Spartans Off Court in 3-1 Victory

EAST LANSING, Mich. – Behind 14 service aces, Indiana's most in a Big Ten match during the rally era, the IU volleyball team defeated Michigan State 3-1 (25-22, 25-13, 21-25, 25-10) on Friday afternoon at the Breslin Center in East Lansing.
Junior setter Camryn Haworth provided six aces with sophomore outside hitter Candela Alonso-Corcelles going for five as IU (20-12, 10-9) recorded its 20th win of the season. The Hoosiers 10 wins in conference play are the most since 2002.
With 14 aces on Friday afternoon, IU has become the first Big Ten program in the 25-point rally era to record consecutive 200-ace seasons. Minnesota (2001 and 2002) is the only other team to do it since 2001.
The Hoosiers compiled 11 total team blocks and dug 49 balls while hitting a collective .271 (48-16-118) on the afternoon in the victory.
IU will look to match a program record with 21 regular season wins tomorrow in Ann Arbor against Michigan at 6:30 PM.

• IU recorded its 20th win of the season, the first time the program has won 20 games in a season since 2010. It marks just the sixth 20-win regular season for IU since the Big Ten and NCAA began sponsoring volleyball in 1981.
• With the win, the Hoosiers have won both 20 games overall and 10 games in the Big Ten. It's just the fifth time in program history IU has won 20 and 10 in the same season and the first time since 2002.
• The Hoosiers tallied 14 service aces in the match, the second time this season they've hit 14 in a single match. The 14 aces are the most by the program in a Big Ten match in the history of the rally era (since 2001).
• IU had 218 aces in 2022 and now has 211 in 2023, the first Big Ten program with consecutive 200-ace seasons since NCAA volleyball began playing in a 25-point scoring system (since 2008).
#10 Haworth, Camryn
• The junior setter was outstanding from the service line on Friday, providing six aces in the victory. It is her third-straight year with a match of six aces.
• She has 72 aces on the season, making her just the sixth-different Big Ten player with 70+ aces in a single season during the rally era. She has the ninth-most aces in a single season Big Ten rally-era history.
• Haworth's 37 assists moved her to 1,200 on the season, the first IU setter with 1,200+ assists in a single campaign since 2007.
• With a double-double on Friday (37 assists, 15 digs), she has 10 double-doubles for the second-straight year. She is the first IU player, under the current scoring system, with consecutive seasons of 10+ double-doubles.
#15 Kjolhede, Savannah
• The senior middle blocker went for five kills and nine blocks in the victory. Her nine blocks helped spell a total of 11 team blocks for the Hoosiers.
#3 Alonso-Corcelles, Candela
• For the 15th-straight match, the sophomore went for 10-plus kills as IU's primary attacker. She tallied a game-high 14 kills in the victory.

• IU was effective offensively from the jump, hitting .333 (14-3-33) in the first frame. Alonso-Corcelles went for six kills while senior outside hitter Morgan Geddes added three herself.
• The Hoosiers took a 17-11 lead midway through the set but Michigan State closed the gap to just two at 22-23 to force head coach Steve Aird into a timeout.
• Out of the timeout, Alonso-Corcelles and Geddes went for a pair of kills to put the first set on ice and give the Hoosiers an early advantage.

• Led by four kills from Alonso-Corcelles, IU hit .455 (11-1-22) to dominate the second set and open up a big lead on the Spartans.

• IU struggled with self-inflicted wounds in the third set as Michigan State rallied to send the match to four sets.
• The Hoosiers had four aces and three blocks but totaled nine attacking errors to allow the Spartans back into the match.
• IU leveled the match at 18-all after a five-point run but Michigan State responded with a 4-0 run of its own to take a 22-18 lead. Both teams exchanged service errors to end the set.
