Indiana Heads to Notre Dame for Meyo Invitational

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - With the calendar flipping to February, the Indiana Track and Field teams are prepping for the homestretch of the indoor season. The Big Ten Championships are set for the final weekend of the month with the NCAA Indoor Championships scheduled for the second week of March.

A trip to South Bend for the Meyo Invitational awaits a select group of Hoosiers before a big weekend at the Windy City Invite in two weeks' time.
Â
Friday's action begins at 4:00 PM EST with Saturday beginning at 10:50 AM EST.

LAST TIME OUT:
The Hoosiers finished out the month of January with some big performances at the Indiana Relays and Texas Tech Open.

Jake Gebhardt (7:52.97) and Jenna Barker (9:21.64) threw down big personal bests to win the 3000 meters. Gebhardt's time was a Big Ten-leading time while Barker ran the third-best mark in the conference.

Sarah Schmitt ran her first race since the NCAA Cross Country National Championships with a 4:45.71 Mile to match her personal best.
Â
Antonio Laidler (21.14) and Alyssa Robinson (23.84) both moved into No. 3 in program history across 200 meters with big indoor personal bests on Friday night.

Jayden Ulrich threw a big lifetime best in the Shot Put with a mark of 17.53m/57-6.25 to move into No. 4 in school history. Her mark currently sits No. 5 in the NCAA this year.

Paola Fernandez-Sola jumped out to a huge personal best in the Long Jump at 6.39m/20-11.75 at the Texas Tech Open. Hope Purcell jumped six meters for the first time in her career with a mark of 6.09m/19-11.75.

Parker Raymond made his season debut at 800 meters with a personal best of 1:49.98. Maddie Russin ran 2:10.91 in her 800-meter season debut.

UPCOMING MEET:
IU will take a selection of athletes to Notre Dame for the Meyo Invitational before the final big weekend of the season at the Windy City Challenge in two weeks.
Â
After competing at the Texas Tech Open last weekend, the jumps squad will take the weekend off. Serena Bolden will be the lone competitor in the Triple Jump.
Â
Jayden Ulrich, Adam Strouf, Noah Koch and Makayla Hunter will all compete in the Shot Put and the Weight Throw. Sean Mockler and Hunter Smith will also throw the weight this weekend.
Â
Alyssa Robinson and Lauren Thomas will run at 400 meters with Maddie Russin set to run at 800 meters. Olivia Gee, Kaylee Lane, Elizabeth Stanhope, Katelyn Winton and Alyssa Skorge will also run this weekend.

Trelee Banks, Ray Brodie and Antonio Laidler will double up at 60 meters and 200 meters. Jaylen Grimes (200, 400m), David Olowookere (200m, 400m), Shaton Vaughn (60mH, 400m) and John Colquitt (60mH, 200m) are also set to double in the sprints/hurdles.

Gabriel Sanchez is scheduled to run his first Mile of the weekend with Parker Raymond running at 800 meters again. Camden Marshall is also set to run the 800 meters.

NEWS AND NOTES:
Following a strong Cross Country season that saw him finish top-25 in the Big Ten, sophomore Camden Marshall has continued that success on the track. The Big Ten Indoor Champion at 800 meters last year, he opened the season by besting the school record in the 1000 meters with a time of 2:21.64.

To follow that up, Marshall joined the elite sub 4-minute mile club at IU alongside teammate Jake Gebhardt, crossing the line in 3:59.30 to move into 10th all-time in program history.
Â
Already one of the best pole vaulters in program history, Nathan Stone has started to challenge for the best marks ever seen by a Hoosier.
Â
He has opened the season by winning the first four meets in convincing fashion and has attempted for PR's every time before falling just short.
Â
Already a three-time Big Ten Champion, Stone has big plans for his senior season in 2023.

Jenna Barker has gotten off to a blazing start in her final season for IU.
Â
Across the first four meets, she's set personal bests in the 800 meters (2:08.91), Mile (4:42.74) and 3000 meters (9:21.46) and is currently the Big Ten leader in the Mile.

Antonio Laidler has been busy for the Hoosiers in the early portions of the season and is off to a strong start.
Â
He won the 60 meters and 200 meters at the Gladstein Invitational and the Indiana Relays and ran on the 4x400 relay team.
Â
He owns season's bests of 6.73 and 21.50 in the early portions of the season and has the potential to run on the 4x400 relay teams and Distance Medley Relay teams.

Jake Gebhardt ran to a Big Ten-leading time of 7:52.97 across 3000 meters at the Indiana Relays. He shaved nearly seven minutes off his personal best and moved into No. 7 in program history.
