SOUTH BEND, Ind. - The Indiana Track and Field teams wrapped up the opening night of the Meyo Invitational on the campus of Notre Dame.
A relatively slow night saw the Hoosiers compete across just eight events with the majority of competition set for Saturday in South Bend.
Jayden Ulrich opened up Friday's events with a big throw of 17.28m/56-8.5 to win the Shot Put by a comfortable margin. She had three throws over 17 meters in the series and continues her strong run of success in the event this season.
Makayla Hunter was second in the Shot Put, throwing a lifetime best of 16.22m/53-2.75 on her fifth attempt to finish second. She remains 10th in program history but improves on her indoor personal best by nearly a foot.
Her mark would put her eighth in the Big Ten entering the day, ensuring IU two spots in the top eight of the conference's descending order list in the Shot Put.
Nile Brown advanced out of the qualifying round of the 60-meter hurdles, running a personal best of 8.93 over hurdles. She moves into tomorrow morning's preliminary round.
Ray Brodie finished eighth in the qualifying round of the Men's 60 meters with Trelee Banks in 12th. Brodie advances to tomorrow's preliminary round alongside Antonio Laidler and Christopher Grant.
Keefer Soehngen led a quartet of Hoosiers in the 600 meters, running a personal best of 1:19.17 to take seventh place. Elizabeth Stanhope ran on the women's side, finishing in 1:32.77.
John Colquitt was IU's top finisher at 200 meters, clocking a personal best and his first sub-22 time of 21.92. David Olowookere (22.17) and Ray Brodie (22.18) were among the runners to lower their lifetime bests on Friday evening.
To close out the night, Noah Koch launched a near three-foot lifetime best of 18.81m/61-8.5 in the Shot Put to finish third. With that throw, he moves all the way into fourth in program history in his first season with the Hoosiers.
IU will resume action this weekend tomorrow, beginning with Serena Bolden in the Women's Triple Jump at 11:00 AM EST.
