Hoosiers Primed for Big Ten Indoor Track and Field Championships

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - It's postseason time in Track and Field.
The Big Ten Indoor Track and Field Championships will host some of the Midwest's best athletes this weekend in Geneva, Ohio, with 13 men's and women's programs set to attend.
IU will bring a selection of 43 athletes to Spire Institute, 19 women and 24 men, to compete at the conference meet.
This will be the final Big Ten Indoor Track and Field Championship meet for head coach Ron Helmer. He's won the meet on three previous occasions in 2012, 2017 and 2020.
THE MEET
Location: Geneva, Ohio (Spire Institute)
Dates: February 24th and 25th
Start 10:40 AM-7:40 PM (Friday), 11:00 AM-5:10 PM (Saturday)

THE HOOSIER LINEUP
Camden Marshall is the lone returning Big Ten Champion from last season. He is looking to go back-to-back across 800 meters. He is also among the available selections to run in both the Distance Medley Relay and 4x400 relay.
Sean Mockler and Noah Koch will compete in the throws this weekend with Alex Smith, Grayson Rolen and Robert Blue set to contest the jumps. The trio of Riley Johnston, Tyler Carrel and Nathan Stone are all entered in the Pole Vault. Koch (Shot Put and Weight Throw) and Blue (Long Jump and Triple Jump) will double back during the two-day event.
Antonio Laidler will run at 60 meters and 200 meters and is available for both the 4x400 relay and Distance Medley Relay. Trelee Banks, Christopher Grant, Micah Camble and Shaton Vaughn will all run in the sprints as well. The mid-distance will see Nick Couyoumjian, Parker Raymond and Keefer Soehngen run. Jake Gebhardt will the biggest threat in the distance events.
On the women's side, Jayden Ulrich and Makayla Hunter will throw while Paola Fernandez-Sola, Mahogany Jenkins and Serena Bolden compete in the jumps. Hope Purcell is expected to contest the Pentathlon with the ability to double back in the open Long Jump and High Jump. Bolden (Long Jump and Triple Jump) and Jenkins (Triple Jump and High Jump) are both double entered.
Sarah Schmitt, Maddie Dalton, Jenna Barker, Phoebe Bates, Alyssa Skorge, Katelyn Winton and Mikaela Ramirez are set to run the distance events. Maddie Russin and Elizabeth Stanhope will contest the 800 and 600 meters respectively.
Sprinting for the Hoosiers on the women's side includes Alyssa Robinson and Kaylee Lane. Jessica Mercier will vault for IU.
2022 BIG TEN INDOOR RECAP
The Hoosiers finished fourth on the men's side (80) and ninth on the women's side (33) at the 2022 Big Ten Indoor Track and Field Championships.
Rikkoi Brathwaite (60m) and Camden Marshall (800m) served as individual champions for IU.
IU got additional podium finishes from Maria Anderson (Bronze, 600m), Ben Veatch (Silver, Mile and 5000m), Nathan Stone (Bronze, Pole Vault), the Men's 4x400 Relay (Bronze) and the Men's Distance Medley Relay (Silver)
