
Indiana Softball Defeats Delaware, Drops Game Against UNCG

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Indiana Softball (5-7) defeated the Delaware Blue Hens, 6-4, in game one and fell short in game two against UNCG, 6-5, on day two of the UNCG Invitational.
INDIANA 6, DELAWARE 4
KEY MOMENTS
• Indiana would get things rolling early as sophomore Sarah Stone hit an RBI single to left field.
• Sophomore Brianna Copeland earned two more RBIs on a double to right field to hold a 2-0 lead in the top of the first.
• The Hoosiers defense would keep the Blue Hens at bay with a couple of fly outs and a pop out in the bottom of the inning.
• Andrews singled up the middle to start the top of the second inning and a fielder's choice would advance her. The Hoosiers would strand her on base as the Blue Hens got the next three outs.
• In the bottom of the second, Delaware would score three runs on three hits to take a 3-2 lead.
• Indiana responded to the challenge as they scored three runs in the top of the third for a 5-3 advantage.
• An error by Delaware's short stop would move the loaded bases to score a run.
• Senior Abby Meeks hit a two RBI double to left field to send the runners home.
• In the top of the fourth freshman Taryn Kern extended the lead as she hit her first career home run deep to left center, 6-3.
• The Blue Hens added one more run after capitalizing on an error from the catcher, but Indiana retired the side for the win.

• Kern hit her first home run of her career.
• Copeland tallied four strikeouts for the win. She is now 2-0 on the season in the circle.
INDIANA 5, UNCG 6
KEY MOMENTS
• In the top of the first, senior Cora Bassett hit a leadoff single to center field to reach base. Indiana would go down the line up with junior Brooke Benson reaching base after being hit by the pitch. Stone stepped up to the plate to bring them home as she earned an RBI double to left field.
• Sophomore Taylor Minnick earned two more RBIs for the Hoosiers with a single to right field extending the lead, 3-0.
• UNCG hit back-to-back home runs in the bottom of the first and second innings to cut the deficit, 3-2.
• Minnick with another at bat for the Hoosiers as she hit a sac fly to left field to score senior pinch runner Tatum Hayes.
• The battle continued in the bottom of the inning as the Spartans would score another on an RBI single to left field.
• In the top of the fourth, Bassett bounced one off the scoreboard for her third home run of the season putting the Hoosiers up 5-3.
• The Spartans would follow that up with another home run in the bottom of the inning to keep it close, 5-4.
• It was a 1-2-3 inning in the fifth as neither team could get anything going.
• UNCG reached first on a single to left field in the bottom of the seventh, but the pinch hitter would homer to left field to walk it off.
NOTABLES
• Bassett hit her third home run this season and the 15th of her career at Indiana.
• Copeland tallied four strikeouts for the win. She is now 2-0 on the season in the circle.
