No. 13 IU Defeats No. 16 UCSB In Opening Game at Triton Invitational

LA JOLLA, Calif. – Sophomore attacker Sophia Sollie scored the go-ahead goal with 2:03 to play in the fourth quarter as No. 13 Indiana defeated No. 16 UC Santa Barbara, 7-6, in the opener of the 2023 Triton Invitational.

KEY MOMENTS

With just 15 ticks on the clock in the first, UCSB took a 2-1 advantage on a natural goal. Indiana battled back in the second however, scoring three goals by junior defender Kallie White, sophomore attacker Skylar Kidd and graduate student goalie Mary Askew.
Askew's goal came with one second left on the clock before the half to give Indiana a 4-3 lead at the break.
IU pushed its lead to two goals as Sollie connected on her first goal of the day with 5:32 in the third. Freshman attacker Grace Klingler put her team back on top at the end of the third, 6-5.
Battling it out in the fourth, UCSB evened the score at the 3:24 mark of action but Indiana would have the final say as it got the game winning goal from Sollie with 2:03 left in the fourth quarter.

NOTES

Sollie led the way with two goals. White, Kidd, Askew, Klingler, and senior defender Lanna Debow each had one goal.
Indiana avenged a prior loss to the Gauchos earlier this season. UCSB won 13-10 on Jan. in the UCSB Winter Invite.
IU now has three ranked wins on the season amongst foes in the CWPA Top 25.
The Hoosiers improved to 7-2 on the season.

The Hoosiers will face the winner of USC/Concordia at 2:40 p.m. ET on Saturday, Feb. 4.
