Hoosiers Split Games on Day Two of Hoosier Classic

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – On day two of the Hoosier Classic, Indiana Softball (8-9) fell, 12-1, in five innings against the Wisconsin Badgers but bounced back in game two against the Purdue Fort Wayne Mastodons with a 10-1 five inning victory at Andy Mohr Field.
GAME 1: INDIANA 1, WISCONSIN 12
KEY MOMENTS
• Indiana sophomore Taylor Minnick started things off for Indiana with an RBI single, giving the Hoosiers a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first.
• The Badgers hit two back-to-back doubles in the top of the second, earning one RBI to tie the game.
• In the bottom of the second, junior Aaliyah Andrews earned the Hoosiers second hit of the game with a triple off the right field wall. The next batter stepped up but couldn't convert after a ground out closed the inning.
• Wisconsin came out swinging, scoring six runs in the top of the third to extend the lead. The Badgers would tack on four more runs in the fourth, 11-1.
• In the fifth, UW extended the lead as they added one more run to finish the game in five.
GAME 2: INDIANA 10, PURDUE FORT WAYNE 1
KEY MOMENTS
• The Mastodons opened the ball game up with an RBI single up the middle in the top of the first to take the lead.
• That was no match for sophomore Sarah Stone as she went yard for three RBI to clear the bases, 3-1.
• Indiana extended the lead, 10-1, in the bottom of the third after scoring seven runs on five hits beginning with an RBI single to left center from freshman Avery Parker.
• Sophomore Kinsey Mitchell added another run with an RBI single followed by a 2 RBI double from freshman Taryn Kern.
• Indiana would capitalize on a wild pitch before scoring again on an RBI double to left field from Minnick to close out the inning.
• The Hoosier defense remained strong as they came up with a 4-6-3 double play and a ground out heading into the top of the fourth and held a 1-2-3 inning in the top of the fifth for the victory.
NOTABLES
• Andrews hit her first career triple of the season and of her career against the Badgers.
• Stone hit her second HR of the season and the fourth of her career.
• IU totaled nine hits with eight RBI against Purdue Fort Wayne.
