THE HOOSIER LINEUP
IU will be represented by three entries at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships in Albuquerque, N.M. this weekend.
Behind a strong showing in the regular season, the Hoosiers earned bids in the Women's Long Jump (Paola Fernandez-Sola), Women's Shot Put (Jayden Ulrich) and Men's Distance Medley Relay (Camden Marshall, Shaton Vaughn, Parker Raymond and Jake Gebhardt).
The Hoosiers have qualified a Men's DMR team through to the national meet for the 13th time under Head Coach Ron Helmer, the second most in the nation since he took over before the 2008 season.
IU's six-consecutive appearances in the event marks the nation's longest active streak. The lineup to toe the line feature's Marshall on the 1200-meter leg, Vaughn at 400 meters, Raymond at 800 meters and Gebhardt carrying the stick on anchor leg.
Gebhardt anchored the relay in 3:54 at the Alex Wilson Invite while Marshall has run 1:47 (800m)/3:57 (Mile) this year. Vaughn ran 47.8 in the 400 meters at the Big Ten meet and Raymond has been 1:49 at 800 meters this year.
Ulrich qualified through in the Shot Put with the 11th-best throw in the nation this year, a personal best of 17.56m/57-7.5 to finish third at the Big Ten Indoor Championships.
She will be making her NCAA Indoor Championships debut. She was a double qualifier in the Shot Put and Discus at the NCAA Outdoor Championships as a true freshman in 2022.
The Hoosiers have sent at least one entry to the NCAA Indoor Championships in the Women's Shot Put in four of the last five years. A legacy built by Khayla Dawson and Maddy Pollard has now been continued by Ulrich who will look for her first First Team All-American honor.
Fernandez-Sola was the final qualifier into the field in the Women's Long Jump. She used a qualifying tie-breaker to edge out New Mexico's Elizabeth White for a spot at the national meet.
The San Juan, Puerto Rico native was the Big Ten runner-up and owns a season's best jump of 6.39m/20-11.75 which ranks second in program history.
She is the first Hoosier to qualify in the Women's Long Jump at the NCAA Indoor Championships in 20 years.
2023 BIG TEN INDOOR RECAP
IU's women finished fifth while the men were fourth over the course of the weekend.
Hope Purcell in the Pentathlon and Nathan Stone in the Pole Vault were Big Ten Champions. On the weekend, IU won two gold medals, five silver medals and three bronze medals.

Austin Haskett (Mile), Jenna Barker (3000 meters) and Jayden Ulrich all outperformed their seeded marks to take bronze medals and six points each.
Gebhardt (16), Laidler (13) and Schmitt (11) all scored in double-digits individually for the Hoosiers.
