BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana rowing is back in the NCAA Championships for the seventh time in nine seasons.
The Hoosiers were selected to the 22-team field for the 2023 NCAA Women's Rowing Championships on Tuesday (May 16).
Indiana will row against the top teams in the country May 26-28 at Camden County Boathouse in Pennsauken, New Jersey. The competition includes the Varsity Eight, Second Varsity Eight and Varsity Four crews.
"It's exciting. We're fired up," IU head rowing coach Steve Peterson said. "They worked really, really hard. I think, especially towards the end of the spring here, when we got into Big Tens, they were really focused, they had a lot of good goals, and I think they just stepped up to make sure that they achieved them.
"One of the goals was doing better than we've ever done at Big Tens, and we did that. Another one was to get to the NCAA Championships, and they've now achieved that. We have other goals moving forward from here, and we're just excited about it."
Indiana joins the national field after producing a program-record third-place finish at the 2023 Big Ten Rowing Championships on Sunday (May 14). Three IU boats medaled, tying the program record.
The Varsity Eight crew earned the boat's best-ever finish at the conference meet, surging in the final 500 meters to secure the silver medal by 27 hundredths of a second. The Indiana 2V4 and 2N8 boats each earned bronze medals, and no IU crew placed lower than fifth.
