Three Former Hoosiers Are Part of 2023 NBA Finals

Bloomington, IND.—Three former men's basketball players who led the Hoosiers to Big Ten Championships during the career will now be a part of this year's NBA Finals. Guard Victor Oladipo and center Cody Zeller, members of the 2013 Big Ten title squad, are part of the Miami Heat organization. Big man Thomas Bryant, a key member from the 2016 championship team, is a member of the Denver Nuggets. IU and Kentucky each have three former players in this year's Finals.
OLADIPO—Victor earned consensus first-team All-American honors and was The Sporting News National Player of the Year and College Basketball Defensive Player of the Year in 2013. He was chosen second overall in the 2013 NBA Draft by Orlando and has played with Oklahoma City, Indiana, Houston and now Miami. In 10 NBA seasons, he has averaged 16.9 points per game and was an NBA All-Star in 2018 and 2019. He suffered a torn patellar tendon in his left knee in the first round of the playoffs against Milwaukee.
ZELLER—Cody was the 2012-13 Preseason National Player of the Year and earned All-American honors after his sophomore season. He was taken fourth overall in the 2013 NBA Draft by Charlotte and also played with Portland before signing with Miami in midseason. He has played in 10 seasons and has appeared in 16 playoff games this year. He has averaged 8.4 points and 5.9 boards in his career.
BRYANT—Thomas was a Preseason All-American prior to the 2016-17 season. He was drafted in the second round by the Utah Jazz and was immediately traded to the Los Angeles Lakers. He later joined Washington before rejoining the Lakers at the beginning of this season. He was traded to Denver at midseason and has played six years in the Association. He averaged 12.1 points with the Lakers this season and 10.1 points during his career.
