Indiana Men’s Tennis Finishes Play at the ITA Ohio Valley Regional Championship

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. ––––– Indiana Men's Tennis wrapped up play Sunday evening at the ITA Ohio Valley Regional Championship in West Lafayette, Indiana.
The Hoosiers were represented by Matteo Antonescu, Luc Boulier, Braeden Gelletich, Nikola Kolyachev, Ben Pomeranets, Karan Raghavendra, Deacon Thomas, Jip van Assendelft, and Facundo Yunis.
In the doubles event, the freshman duo of Matteo Antonescu and Karan Raghavendra secured a win in the opening round, defeating Lucas Bitzer and Dung Em Oliver Dao, 8-3.
Facundo Yunis and Jip van Assendelft put together a strong showing as a duo. After an opening round bye, Yunis and Assendelft would earn a win in the round of 32, taking down Sota Minami and Aeneas Schaub, 8-1. The duo would then advance to quarterfinals with a win over Bellarmine's Jack Batchelor and Matthew Nice, 8-4.
In the quarterfinal round, the duo would once again find success, defeating Martin Garcia-Ripoll Ore and Francisco Lamas, 8-5. Yunis and Assendelft's run would come to an end with a 6-3, 7-6 (8-6) loss in the semifinal round.
In singles play, Luc Boulier, Braeden Gelletich, and Deacon Thomas would all earn themselves a spot in the main draw with two wins each in the qualifying rounds.
In the round of 64, five Hoosiers would earn themselves wins to advance to the round of 32.
Freshman Braeden Gelletich earned himself his third win of the tournament in the round of 64 win over Jakub Jupa, 6-3, 6-3.
In the round of 32, junior Deacon Thomas would secure a win over Purdue's Stefan Simeunovic, 6-2, 6-3, to secure a spot in the round of 16 against teammate Jip van Assendelft.
In the round of 16 battle between teammates, Jip Van Assendelft would take the win in two sets to advance to the quarterfinals.
Indiana will be back in action on Nov. 1 when Hoosiers compete in the Fighting Irish Mini Duals in South Bend, Indiana.
