BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – October comes to a close for the Indiana Volleyball team (9-10, 2-7 B1G) as it looks to end a five-match losing streak on Sunday (Oct. 27) evening at Wilkinson Hall. Northwestern visits Bloomington for the first time since 2022 for a 7:30 PM ET contest on the Big Ten Network. Chris Vosters (PxP) and Elena Shkylar (Color) will have the broadcast.
The Hoosiers dipped under .500 as a program for the first time since Nov. 19, 2022. IU has fallen victim to some injuries at key positions and a run of opponents all ranked inside the top-30 of the RPI. Four of the past five games have been against teams in the top-15 of the AVCA poll. IU broke a similar losing streak in 2022 against Northwestern and will hope to do the same on Sunday evening.
With injuries to senior setter Camryn Haworth and junior opposite Avry Tatum, IU broke out a 6-2 system against Wisconsin for the first time since 2021. Freshman Sade Ilawole and sophomore Luca Fickell did a good job running the offense on short notice against a physical blocking team. Graduate student Delaynie Maple, playing six rotations for the first time as an indoor player, provided a career best eight kills.
Sophomore libero Ramsey Gary is having a premier sophomore campaign and is flying under the radar nationally. She's the Big Ten leader in digs per set (4.35) and has a massive lead in digs per set in conference only games (4.81). She's anchoring the back row right now and is second among all NCAA power four underclassmen this season in the category.
IU would take a 40-39 lead in the all-time series against Northwestern with a victory Sunday. It would also provide head coach Steve Aird and the Hoosiers the eighth home win of the campaign. Over the past two seasons, four of IU's five home losses have been against top-eight programs.
Six of the Hoosiers' final 11 games in Big Ten play will come at Wilkinson Hall. That slate features a pair of ranked opponents in Purdue and USC. Of the current top seven teams in the conference, IU has three remaining games against them. Two of those will come in Bloomington. Before the Boilermakers visit on November 8th, IU is looking to rack up some wins against teams in a similar position to itself (Northwestern, at Rutgers and at Maryland).

Time to Make a Run
• There aren't any easy nights in the Big Ten. However, after a run of five-straight opponents in the top-30 of the RPI, the Indiana Volleyball team might get a chance to have a productive November. The Hoosiers are aiming to get healthy and begin a winning streak against Northwestern on Sunday. IU has just three remaining games against the top-seven teams in the Big Ten standings. It has eight games against the bottom 10 programs.
Wilkinson Hall Magic
• The Hoosiers got off to a 7-0 start at Wilkinson Hall in 2024 after a pair wins over Michigan State and Ohio State. The start, which ended after a tight loss to No. 3 Penn State, was the best start to a home campaign in program history. Over the past two seasons, IU is 17-5 inside the confines of its home gym. Four of those five losses were to top-8 teams. The Hoosiers have six home games left including tilts with Purdue and USC.
Gary Gets Going
• Sophomore libero Ramsey Gary has been quietly as good as anyone in the Big Ten. She's leading the league with 4.33 digs per set. In conference games only, she leads the league by a wide margin with 4.81 digs per set.
• She recorded her 13th career 20-dig match against Purdue (Oct. 19). It was the second time in her young career with 20+ digs in a three-set contest. She's surpassed 800 digs for her career and is well on her way to becoming the fastest in IU history to 1,000.
Out of Position Against the Badgers
• Without setter Camryn Haworth and opposite Avry Tatum against No. 8 Wisconsin, IU resorted to a 6-2 offense for the first time in three years. Delaynie Maple played all six rotations on the left and had a career high eight kills. Setters Sade Ilawole and Luca Fickell, in their first big taste of college volleyball, combined for 22 assists and 12 digs.

• Camryn Haworth will be a question mark on Sunday night but has a productive history against Northwestern. She's gone for triple-doubles in each of the last two years.
