BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — No. 16-ranked Indiana men's soccer (10-3-5, 7-1-2 B1G) defeated Division III opponent Trine (7-7-2, 5-0-2 MIAA) 4-1 Friday (Nov. 1) night in its regular season final on Jerry Yeagley Field at Bill Armstrong Stadium.
IU celebrated nine seniors during a pregame ceremony: JT Harms, Luke Jeffus, Patrick McDonald, Tommy Mihalic, Jansen Miller, Aidan Montoure, Samuel Sarver, Justin Weiss and Grant Yeagley. The 2024 senior class has earned a 54-18-17 (.702) record in four seasons, won three Big Ten Championships and reached the NCAA College Cup in 2022.
KEY MOMENTS
• 1' – Indiana started a familiar XI and was out of the gate strong. Fifty-five seconds in, freshman midfielder Charlie Heuer punched home senior forward Tommy Mihalic's low cross.
• 9' – Eight minutes late, it was Heuer's turn to assist. He lifted a ball over Trine's backline right into the path of fellow freshman Michael Nesci, who had an easy finish. The sequence was originally called offside, but a VAR check awarded a goal to Indiana.
• 17' – On the run, sophomore defender Alex Barger fired a low cross from the left wing that found sophomore forward Collins Oduro at the back post.
• 22' – Barger was the beneficiary of a Mihalic assist, as the senior found the sophomore on an on overlapping run. Barger took his chance and scored his first goal of the season.
• 28' – Trine sophomore midfielder Ben Borak took the ball off IU deep in its own territory and scored his one-on-one opportunity against senior goalkeeper JT Harms.
