Indiana Tops Marshall to Close Out Hillenbrand Invitational

The Hoosiers went 3-2 on the weekend with wins over Central Michigan, Drake and Marshall with two narrow losses to No. 17 Arizona.
Indiana's season record now stands at 11-4 overall.

KEY MOMENTS
• Indiana opened the scoring with a sacrifice fly to center field from Taylor Minnick in the top of the first inning to score Cora Bassett and put IU up 1-0.
• In the top of the second, Brooke Benson hit an inside the park home run to the right field wall to extend Indiana's lead to 2-0.
• Marshall would add three runs in the bottom of the second to take the lead, 3-2.
• Indiana had a seven-run explosion in the top of the fourth inning with Alex Cooper hitting a three-run home run to dead center field, an RBI double from Bassett, an RBI single from Minnick, as well as a bases loaded walk.
• Indiana's defense closed the game out in the bottom of the seventh. Marshall threatened to score and make it closer with two runners on base, but Benson made the play at shortstop to end it and secure the win.
NOTABLES
• Freshman Alex Cooper's home run was the second of her college career.
• With Cooper and Brooke Benson going yard, it was Indiana's third game of the weekend where it recorded multiple home runs.
• Sophomore Sophie Kleiman earned her third win of the season.
• Redshirt senior Cora Bassett has recorded multiple hits in seven of 15 games this season.
UP NEXT
Indiana will get to host games at Andy Mohr Field next weekend from March 1-3 in the Hoosier Classic. The event will feature games against Bowling Green and Valparaiso.
