Indiana Finishes Indiana Invite with 4-0 Weekend
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. –––– Indiana kept the momentum going on Monday afternoon with the Hoosiers picking up two more wins for a 4-0 showing to close out the Indiana Invite at Andy Mohr Field.
Indiana defeated Oakland, 9-0, in five innings in the Hoosiers' first game of the day and followed that up with an 8-1 victory over Dayton in the second game.
With the wins, Indiana improved its season record to 19-4. The Hoosiers have also won nine games in a row.
GAME 1: INDIANA 9, OAKLAND 0 (F/5)
GAME 2: INDIANA 8, DAYTON 1
KEY MOMENTS (vs. Oakland)
• Indiana scored all of its runs in the second and third inning, logging five in the second inning and four in the third.
• Freshman Alex Cooper got Indiana's offense started in the bottom of the second, with an RBI double to right center, which scored three runs to put Indiana up 3-0.
• In the third inning senior Brooke Benson tripled to center field and scored Cooper in the process to make it an 8-0 game.
• A double from redshirt senior Cora Bassett scored Benson and solidified Indiana's 9-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning.
• Senior Macy Montgomery pitched in relief, throwing two innings and not allowing a run or a hit and threw four strikeouts in six batters faced.
KEY MOMENTS (vs. Dayton)
• When tied 1-1 in the bottom of the third inning, junior Sarah Stone broke the game open with a double to left center field that scored two runs and put IU up 3-1.
• A few at-bats later, freshman Aly VanBrandt hit for an RBI single to add on another run and extend the lead to 4-1.
• The scoring continued in the bottom of the third inning when sophomore Avery Parker hit one over the fence in left field for a two-run home run.
• Junior Brianna Copeland homered to left center, scoring two runs and extending the lead to 8-1.
• In the top of the seventh inning, the game ended on a lineout and impressive catch from senior Brooke Benson.
NOTABLES
• Indiana outhit Oakland and Dayton by a combined 20-7 on Monday.
• In Indiana's opening homestand of the 2024 season, the Hoosiers went 8-0 in games at Andy Mohr Field.
• Across both games, ten different Hoosiers recorded a hit.
• Against Oakland, Aly VanBrandt, Sarah Stone, Kinsey Mitchell, Alex Cooper and Brooke Benson all went 2-for-2 at the plate.
• With Indiana heading to play at Florida Atlantic and Florida this week, it'll mark Indiana's second trip out to the sunshine state this season.
