Hoosiers Top Minnesota to Start Weekend Series

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. –––– Indiana got the job done at the plate and in the field to defeat Minnesota, 5-3, on Friday evening at Andy Mohr Field.
With the win, the Hoosiers move to 27-12 on the season, with a 4-6 record in Big Ten play.

KEY MOMENTS
• Minnesota would take an early lead 1-0, as Taylor Krapf hit a double to score Kayla Chavez in the top of the first inning.
• Indiana would quickly take the lead back as junior Brianna Copeland scored off a Sarah Stone double to left center in the bottom of the first. Junior Taylor Minnick would score on the next at-bat to give Indiana a 2-1 lead after the first inning.
• Aaliyah Andrews made a diving catch with two outs to prevent Minnesota from scoring in the second with the bases loaded.
• Minnesota's Sydney Strelow would tie the game when scoring from Nani Valencia's double in the top of the third inning.
• Indiana ended the top of the fifth inning with a double play. Freshman Alex Cooper connected with Aly VanBrandt to get the runner out at second, and then VanBrandt threw to Sarah Stone to get the out at first base.
• Sophomore Avery Parker hit a clutch, three-run home run over the center field wall in the bottom of the fifth to break the tie and put Indiana in front, 5-2.
• Minnesota's Jess Oakland hit a home run in the top of the seventh to bring the score to 5-3. After that, Indiana's defense earned two quick outs on a diving catch from Cassidy Kettleman in center field and a popout to third base, caught by Cooper.
