6-Seed Hoosiers Fall In Overtime To 3-Seed Stanford In MPSF Championships Opener

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – 6-seeded Indiana couldn't hang on to a four-goal lead as it fell 9-8 in overtime to 3-seed Stanford in the MPSF opener on Friday at Counsilman-Billingsley Aquatic Center.

KEY MOMENTS
- Indiana (20-9) led a balanced offense in the first quarter with five Hoosiers finding the back of the net to gain a 5-1 lead against the Cardinal (17-5). Junior Sophie Sollie was the first to gain a goal, assisted by graduate student Zoe Crouch.
- The Hoosier defense stepped in the second quarter, as freshman goalkeeper Audrey Cox put up five saves. Senior Sophie Wazzan threw in a late goal assisted by junior Skylar Kidd, to push the score to 6-4 at the break.
- Sollie scored her second goal early in the third, along with a goal by junior Grace Hathaway the Hoosiers pushed their lead to 8-4. Sophomore Jasmine Higgs came in as goalie and kept the Cardinal scoreless in the quarter by blocking five shots.
- After an Indiana penalty, Stanford scored on the penalty attempt to close in on Indiana's lead at 8-7. Senior Kallie White got the steal under one-minute attempting a goal, but Stanford forced a comeback, tying up the game 8-8 in the last minute, and pushing to overtime.
- In the first overtime period, sophomore Grace Klinger led the Hoosiers taking two shots on goal, along with Wazzan who earned a steal and a block to help keep the Cardinals scoreless.
- Higgs was ready with two vital saves halfway through the second overtime period, but let a Stanford goal go through in the last 20 seconds.
- Six Hoosiers recorded goals, with Sollie and Wazzan sharing the team high of two goals each.
- Crouch recorded a team high three steals.
- Higgs and Cox split time recording a combined 16 saves for the team.
- Kidd led the team with assists, adding a pair.
