BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana University women's soccer head coach Erwin van Bennekom announced the 2024 fall schedule on Tuesday afternoon.
The 2024 schedule includes eight 2023 NCAA Tournament opponents and nine that finished top-40 in the RPI last season. The Hoosiers wrapped the 2023 season with an 11-4-4 record and went 7-0-3 on their home field.
"As the spring draws to a close, we are looking forward to a competitive Fall Season," Associate head coach Tim Verschuren said. "Our schedule features three exhibitions, six non-conference tests, and an 11-game Big Ten slate – all packed with top competition."
"We are excited about the new members of the B1G and our games with them. This balanced schedule provides the perfect platform for continued development and opportunity to compete in postseason play. We are looking forward to the start of pre-season with the goal to build upon last year."
The Hoosiers will open the season with three exhibition matches against UIC (Aug. 3) at Bill Armstrong Stadium before hitting the road for two games against Illinois State (Aug. 6) and Notre Dame (Aug. 10).
The non-conference slate will start under the lights at Bill Armstrong Stadium with a top SEC opponent in Tennessee on Aug. 15. The Vols finished the season with a 9-7-4 overall record and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Their run came to an end with a loss to No. 15 Nebraska, 2-1.
IUWS will travel to Ball State for a match against the Cardinals on Aug. 20 before hosting Wright State to close out the first month on Aug. 29.
Indiana is set to travel to the east coast for a match with Ivy league's Brown University as they start the month of September. The Bears held a perfect 7-0-0 record in the Ivy League conference. BU wrapped up the season with a top-25 ranking (No. 16) and an appearance in the NCAA second round before a 2-1 loss to No. 18 Mississippi State.
The Hoosiers will close out the non-conference portion of the schedule with Evansville (Sept. 5) and Division III opponent Lawrence (Sept. 8). Indiana will also honor their seniors in the final non-con game of the season.
With the addition of four schools to the Big Ten this season, IUWS will face new competition with four universities on the west coast.
But first, the Hoosiers will play a familiar opponent in Ohio State to start conference play on Sept. 12. The Buckeyes fell in the first round of the tournament to Pitt.
The Hoosiers will welcome both California universities to the Midwest. IU will host UCLA on Sept. 19 and USC on Sept. 22 to Bill Armstrong Stadium.
Indiana will head to the west coast to compete on the pitch against new Big Ten opponents in Oregon (Sept. 26) and Washington (Sept. 29).
The squad kicks off October with reigning Big Ten Champion Iowa on Oct. 6. The Hawkeyes wrapped the 2023 season with a 13-5-4 record and went 6-1-2 in the B1G. UI advanced to the NCAA Tournament with a first-round win against Bucknell before falling to No. 12 Georgia in the second round, 3-2.
A three-match homestretch with in-state rival Purdue (Oct. 10), Wisconsin (Oct. 13) and Illinois (Oct. 17) will conclude the home portion of the regular season.
Indiana defeated the Boilermakers 1-0 with a win in West Lafayette, Ind. to take home The Golden Boot.
Wisconsin held a 14-5-4 record and went 7-2-1 in conference play. The Badgers made it to the second round of the NCAA tournament with a first-round victory over Milwaukee before falling to No. 5 Texas in the second round.
IU will hit the road to Minnesota (Oct. 20) and conclude the regular season with Nebraska (Oct. 27). The Cornhuskers were ranked No. 15 in the 17-4-3 and a 10-1-2 record in the B1G. They advanced to the Elite 8 with wins over Tennessee and UC Irvine before falling to Stanford in the quarterfinals.
