
Messer Enters Decathlon Top-10 List, Four Hoosiers Advance to Finals on Day Two of Big Ten Outdoor Championships

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The Hoosiers finish day two of the Big Ten Championships with four final qualifiers while the decathletes wrap up their first decathlon on Saturday at U-M Track and Field Stadium.
Max Grangier and Garrett Messer wrapped up the decathlon with five more events. Messer finished on the podium in sixth place (6,956 pts) earning IU three points. He also moved up to No. 8 in the all-time list.
Grangier had a great day in the pole vault, 1500m and Javelin for a ninth-place finish with 6,797 points.
"Garrett and Max came to the Big Ten Championships and competed at a high level over the course of the two days of the Decathlon this weekend," associate coach Jake Wiseman and Warren Bye said. "We are proud of the way Max and Garrett competed, they had several personal records within the two day event. This was their first ever Decathlon and doing that at the Championships was most impressive!"
Camden Marshall runs the fastest time in the 800m-meter prelims with a 1:48.07 to qualify for Sunday's finals.
The reigning Big Ten Champion has made all six finals of his career, indoors and outdoors, in the 800 meters.
He will race for his fourth title He holds three titles in the event, two indoors (2021, 2024) and one outdoor (2023).
The sprinters saw three qualifiers go through to finals with Antonio Laidler and Trelee Banks in the 100m. Laidler ran a 10.59 to Banks' 10.61 in the prelims.
Kenisha Phillips won her heat with a time of 53.78 to automatically advance to the 400-meter finals. She looks to pick up her second Big Ten medal after winning silver at the Big Ten Indoor Championships.
