Landau Clinches NCAA Bid, Hoosiers Wrap at ITA Ohio Valley Regionals

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. –––– The Indiana Men's Tennis concluded play at the ITA Ohio Valley Regional Championships on Monday afternoon at Purdue.

The weekend tournament was highlighted by Sam Landau working his way to be co-champion of the singles flight to clinch his bid to the NCAA Singles Championships.

Landau won five matches to reach the final two where he finished as co-champion with Pablo Martinez Gomez (Vanderbilt).

This will be Landau's first career trip to NCAAs and the second year in a row that Hoosiers will represent at the individual championships. Last year, Facundo Yunis and Jip van Assendelft reached the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Doubles Championships.

Landau will compete in the Singles Championships from Nov. 21-23 in Orlando, Fla.

The Hoosiers also had strong play across the board in addition to Landau. Six Hoosiers reached the main draw of singles play: Deacon Thomas, Sam Landau, Ben Pomeranets, Facundo Yunis, Matteo Antonescu and Michael Andre.

In doubles play, there were five Hoosier duos that were in the main draw: Sam Scherer/Ben Pomeranets, Aidan Atwood/Braeden Gelletich, Matteo Antonescu/Michael Andre, Deacon Thomas/Karan Raghavendra and Facundo Yunis/Sam Landau.

Antonescu and Andre reached the semifinals before falling to Purdue.

Indiana will next compete in the Big Ten Individual Championships from Oct. 30-Nov. 2 in Madison, Wis.
