Indiana Softball to Go South for Jeanine McHaney Memorial Classic

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. ––––– Back in the United States following a 4-0 weekend at the Puerto Vallarta College Challenge, Indiana Softball will enter its third weekend of play at Texas Tech for the Jeannine McHaney Memorial Classic.
The Hoosiers stand at 8-1 on the year with an eight-game winning streak.

QUICK HITTERS:
- Indiana has won eight games in a row to mark an 8-1 record after dropping their season opener at FIU. The Hoosiers went 4-0 in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, in the Puerto Vallarta College Challenge.
- Indiana returns seven of its nine starters in the field from 2024 with a plethora of new talent coming in, including eight new freshmen and two transfer from Power-4 schools.
- Melina Wilkison, a redshirt junior outfielder from Greensburg, Ind. joins the Hoosiers after spending three seasons at Ohio State. Wilkison was a two-year starter for the Buckeyes, including being an NFCA All-Region and All-Big Ten performer in 2023. She missed almost all of 2024 due to injury.
- The eight freshmen make up the No. 28 ranked recruiting class on Extra Innings Softball for the class of 2024.
- Brianna Copeland, Taylor Minnick and Avery Parker were all named to the Big Ten's preseason Players to Watch List.
LAST TIME OUT:
- Indiana had an excellent second weekend of the season, going 4-0 in the Puerto Vallarta College Challenge. The Hoosiers defeated North Dakota State, Illinois State, Boise State and BYU in their time in Mexico.
- Indiana freshman Jenae Berry was named the tournament's MVP and was listed to the All-Tournament Team along with Taylor Minnick and Melina Wilkison.
- Berry went 3-0 in the tournament and only allowed one run while not giving up any extra base hits. Her ERA for the tournament was just 0.50.
- After the games in Puerto Vallarta, Indiana's offense is outscoring opponents by a combined 68-20 runs.
- Wilkison, Avery Parker and Sarah Stone all hit a home run in Mexico.
- The 10-0 win in five innings over North Dakota State marked the team's fourth win by run rule this season.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS:
- In the Jeannine McHaney Memorial Classic, Indiana will play a four-game set. The Hoosiers open against UIC and then will play UTEP and close with two games versus No. 12 Texas Tech.
- UIC's season has been off to an up-and-down start, posting a 4-6 record through the first two weekends, playing in tournaments at South Alabama and the Silicon Valley.
- After splitting their opening weekend with a 2-2 mark, UTEP has rattled off five-straight wins, going undefeated in their Dr. Diana Natalicio Memorial Tournament to put the Miners at 7-2 thus far.
- Texas Tech has revamped itself after a 29-21 season a year ago. Gerry Glasco took over as head coach after the 2024 season, coming from mid-major power Louisiana.
- Glasco and company acquired the reigning national player of the year in NiJaree Canady from the transfer portal. Canady has led the Red Raiders to an 8-3 start and a top-15 national ranking.
SERIES HISTORY NOTES:
- The game between Indiana and UTEP will mark the first ever meeting between the two programs. Indiana and Texas Tech have not played since 2011, and this will be the first game against UIC for the Hoosiers since 2018.
