Minnick's Grand Slam Powers Indiana to Win

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. ––– Indiana trailed 5-2 in the bottom of the sixth inning to Southern Indiana on Wednesday night at Andy Mohr Field before Taylor Minnick got to the plate.
The senior and Bloomington native then crushed a grand slam over the center field wall to give Indiana the 6-5 lead and propel it to the win.
With the win, Indiana's season record now stands at 19-5 heading into conference play.
INDIANA 6, SOUTHERN INDIANA 5
KEY MOMENTS
• Southern Indiana struck first, breaking a scoreless tie in the top of the second inning when Jordan Mackey doubled to left center to bring in two runs and put USI up 2-0.
• The Screaming Eagles added to their lead with another RBI double in the top of the fifth inning when Whitley Hunter hit a double to center field and brought Caroline Stapleton home to make it a 3-0 game.
• Indiana got on the board when Kinsey Mitchell hit a sac fly out to center field which brought Brianna Copeland in to score and draw closer, only trailing 3-1 in the bottom of the fifth.
• Southern Indiana extended their lead with another RBI single from Mackey to make it 4-1. Not long after, Southern Indiana capitalized on an Indiana error as Grace Huffman made it from second to home to make it 5-1 in the top of the sixth inning.
• In the next half inning, Indiana flipped the momentum.
• Aly VanBrandt got the rally started with a single. Sydni Burko hit a single through the left side to score VanBrandt and make it 5-2.
• Then, Madalyn Strader singled and Alex Cooper walked to load the bases.
• Then, with Minnick up to bat, she hit the ball well over the center field wall for a grand slam and 6-5 Indiana lead.
