Peplowski, Grana Lead Hoosiers to Friday Finals

FEDERAL WAY, Wash. – No. 7-ranked Indiana set itself up for a busy Friday (March 21) night at the 2025 NCAA Women's Swimming and Diving Championships inside the Weyerhaeuser Aquatic Center.
IU will have seven finalists and the No. 5-ranked 400-yard medley relay during the third night of national competition.
Senior Anna Peplowski posted a casual 1:42.48 in the 200-yard freestyle Friday morning as she hunts a fourth-career NCAA in her best event. Her time placed second, but the senior has been faster on four occasions this season. Peplowski is also the only swimmer in this event to go under 1:41 this season and on Wednesday posted a 1:40.97 split during the 800-yard freestyle relay.
Friday night's race will be a rematch of the Big Ten Championship final, with Michigan's Stephanie Balduccini (1:41.21) in lane four and USC's Minna Abraham (1:42.51) in three.
Sophomore Miranda Grana's success during a busy morning will give way to an even busier night. Taking on the 100-yard butterfly, 100-yard backstroke double, Grana qualified for the championship final in both with a pair of personal best times. Grana's 50.23 in the 100-yard backstroke tied IU's program record in the event with senior teammate Kacey McKenna as she tied for sixth in perhaps the fastest event of the meet. Grana is also expected to swim the 400 medley relay.
Three Hoosier backstrokers advanced to finals, as junior Mya DeWitt and McKenna reached the consolation heat all under 51 seconds. DeWitt's first sub-51-second 100 back also earned her first individual All-America honors after contributing to IU's fifth-place 200-yard freestyle relay Thursday night. No Hoosier had ever broken the 51-second barrier prior to McKenna's 50.49 at the 2024 Big Ten Championships – now McKenna, Grana and DeWitt own the school's top three times ahead of 2014's NCAA 200 back champion Brooklyn Snodgrass.
On the 3-meter springboard, senior Skyler Liu and sophomore Lily Witte qualified for finals. A two-time Big Ten Champion in the event, Liu qualified seventh from the early afternoon with a score of 336.35. Witte earned her first-career All-America honors, sneaking into the consolation final with a 15th-place 313.25.
