
Indiana Softball to Host Hoosier Classic

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. –––– Indiana Softball returns to Andy Mohr Field this weekend for its first home action of the 2025 season this weekend as the team host the Hoosier Classic from Friday to Sunday (March 7-9).
The Hoosiers will play five games over the weekend with a doubleheader Friday and Saturday with one game on Sunday.
Indiana enters the event with a 12-5 record on the season.

- Indiana has opened its season with a 12-5 record with its only losses coming to FIU, No. 12 Texas Tech and Clemson. The Hoosiers went 4-0 in the Puerto Vallarta Challenge in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico and are 12-0 in neutral site games.
- Indiana returns six of its nine starters in the field from 2024 with a plethora of new talent coming in, including eight new freshmen and two transfer from Power-4 schools.
- Melina Wilkison, a redshirt junior outfielder from Greensburg, Ind. joins the Hoosiers after spending three seasons at Ohio State. Wilkison was a two-year starter for the Buckeyes, including being an NFCA All-Region and All-Big Ten performer in 2023. She missed almost all of 2024 due to injury.
- The eight freshmen make up the No. 28 ranked recruiting class on Extra Innings Softball for the class of 2024.
- Brianna Copeland, Taylor Minnick and Avery Parker were all named to the Big Ten's preseason Players to Watch.
LAST TIME OUT:
- Indiana is coming off a 2-2 weekend at Clemson's Tiger Invitational, earning wins over Lafayette and East Carolina while falling twice to Clemson.
- On Friday, Indiana defeated Lafayette in a 22-0 run rule. The 22 runs marked the most runs scored in a game since 2017 when Indiana put up 23 runs in a win over Rutgers.
- In that game, Brianna Copeland tied three single-game program records with hits (5), RBI (7) and runs scored (4). She was only the third ever Hoosier to have five hits in a game and the first since 1986.
- During the 8-2 defeat over East Carolina, Taylor Minnick became the program's all-time RBI leader with (154). Minnick went 3-for-4 at the plate in that game with a home run and a double.
- In the first loss to Clemson, Kinsey Mitchell hit her first career home run in the top of the seventh inning.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS:
- Bowling Green's season mark stands at 3-13 and are seeking their first victories since playing in the Norman Tournament when they defeated Tulsa, 9-4, on Feb. 24 at the University of Oklahoma.
- IU Indy is also 3-13 this year. The Jaguars dropped all five games at Gardner-Webb's Spring in the Springs tournament last weekend.
- UIC's season is off to a 4-15 start with the Flames dropping their last 11 games. Indiana and UIC played once already this season, when the Hoosiers defeated UIC 7-4 at Texas Tech.
- Western Michigan is 5-14 on the year in the 2025 campaign. The Broncos are looking for their first win since Feb. 23 after they went winless at the T-Mobile Tournament hosted by Florida.
- Bowling Green also competed in the Hoosier Classic last year and IU Indy played in the Indiana Invite in 2024.
