BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) on Wednesday (June 11) announced its list of eight finalists for the CRCA Athlete of the Year award, featuring Indiana rowing graduate student Annabel Oertel.
The CRCA Athlete of the Year award is given to one rower or coxswain in each division who exemplifies the pinnacle of competitive achievement, character, and leadership.
A two-time All-American, Oertel became IU's third first-team All-American last week. Indiana has produced five All-America awards in the last four seasons.
Oertel led Indiana's Varsity Eight crew to the boat's best-ever finish at an NCAA Championships, placing ninth nationally. As a team, IU finished No. 14 – the program's best finish since 2019. Oertel also earned first-team All-Big Ten honors.
