BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — Is it the 70's? Indiana men's soccer and San Francisco – old rivals in the early days of the IU program – will meet Sunday (Aug. 24) night on Jerry Yeagley Field at Bill Armstrong Stadium.
Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET. Tickets are on sale here, and IU faculty/staff and students with a valid Crimson Card get in free. Fans unable to attend can stream the match via the B1G+ digital platform.
Sunday is Student Appreciation Night at Armstrong Stadium. Students in attendance will receive free pizza prior to kickoff.
KICKING OFF
• Sunday's match is the second within Indiana's five-game homestand.
• Indiana opened its season Thursday in front of a crowd of 6,395 – the third-largest soccer crowd ever at Bill Armstrong Stadium. The Hoosiers fought from down 2-0 in the 57th minute, with goals from transfer forwards Palmer Ault and Jacopo Fedrizzi.
• IU is unbeaten in its last eight games at home going back to the 2024 season, boasting a 6-0-2 record in that stretch.
• Nine Hoosiers made their cream and crimson debuts in Thursday's season opener. Goalkeeper Judewellin Michel became the first true freshman keeper to start a match for IU since Roman Celentano in 2019.
ABOUT THE DONS
• San Francisco won its opener against UC Davis, 1-0, on Thursday.
• Chris Brown leads the Dons in his fifth season, carrying a 25-29-24 record during his time in the bay area.
• 2024 top scorer Brayden Beason returned after a five-goal freshman campaign. Classmate Jaggar Judkins scored USF's winner against UC Davis Thursday.
SERIES HISTORY
• During the early days of Indiana men's soccer, the Hoosiers and Dons shared one of the greatest rivalries in NCAA men's soccer history.
• The two programs met in the national championship match three times in five seasons between 1976-80. It was San Francisco's golden era, winning six titles between 1950-1980, including all three matchups with the Hoosiers. The NCAA later vacated USF's 1978 championship.
• For Indiana, the defeats were the growing pains to becoming the greatest program in NCAA men's soccer history. The young program – which gained varsity status in 1973 – had quickly earned championship experience and would get over the hump with consecutive titles in 1982 and 1983.
• Since 1983, Indiana has not lost to San Francisco in six matchups, with four wins and two ties. The Hoosiers last hosted the Dons in 2017, a 5-1 victory.
