No. 3 Hoosiers Face Notre Dame, First Road Test
9/6/2025 8:00:00 AM | Men's Soccer
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — After going unbeaten (4-0-1) in a five-match homestand to start the season, No. 3-ranked Indiana will hope to translate that success into its first road challenge, a quick trip north to Notre Dame Sunday (Sept. 7) at Alumni Stadium.
Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET. Fans unable to make the trip can watch the match on the ACC Network or via the Watch ESPN digital platform.
KICKING OFF
• Indiana is a consensus top-five team in the national polls; No. 4 in the United Soccer Coaches poll, No. 3 according to Top Drawer Soccer and No. 5 via the College Soccer News poll.
• The Hoosiers shut out their last two opponents, No. 14 Oregon State (2-0) and No. 15 Saint Louis (1-0), within the last week to extend its win streak to four games after a season-opening draw with No. 9-ranked Clemson.
• Indiana has not allowed a goal in 268 minutes of regulation, and graduate goalkeeper Holden Brown boasts a 4-0-0 record.
ABOUT THE FIGHTING IRISH
• Notre Dame sits 1-0-2 coming off a 1-0 victory over Oregon State on August 28 – four days before IU beat the Beavers, 2-0. The Fighting Irish have not played since.
• Head coach Chad Riley leads the Irish in his eighth season in South Bend, sporting a 72-44-24 record. He owns a 123-70-38 career mark in 13 seasons as a head coach.
• Notre Dame has scored two goals in three games while only conceding one score.
SERIES HISTORY
• Indiana's first-ever varsity match was a 5-1 victory in South Bend. The Hoosiers then won 11 straight matchups to kick off a series that will be renewed for the 50th time Sunday night.
• More recently, the two teams have met in 23 of the last 24 seasons, only missing the unique 2020-21 campaign due to IU's conference-only schedule. In that span, the programs have met 27 times.
• The Hoosiers boast a dominant 33-10-6 record in the all-time series and have not suffered a straight defeat in their last seven matches (5-0-4) against the Fighting Irish, each decided by one goal or a draw. It took a penalty shootout for the Fighting Irish to push past IU in the 2023 NCAA Tournament Quarterfinal matchup after the two teams drew 1-1 through 110 minutes.
• Last season, the teams battled to the series' third consecutive draw. Josh Maher assisted Michael Nesci's game-tying goal in the match.
