No. 23 Indiana to Host Maryland on Sunday

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. –––– No. 23 Indiana will host its first Big Ten home dual of the conference season when it welcomes Maryland to Wilkinson Hall on Sunday for a 1 p.m. match.
Indiana enters the matchup at 5-2 and 0-1 in the Big Ten while Maryland is 4-4 and 0-3 in the Big Ten.
MARYLAND MATCHUP:
-Indiana's Sunday dual with Maryland will mark its first home Big Ten match of the 2025-26 season.
-It will also be Indiana's first home dual at Wilkinson Hall since Dec. 13 when it defeated Army.
-The Hoosiers dropped their first Big Ten match at No. 2 Ohio State, 45-0, last Sunday. Maryland is 4-4 and has begun their Big Ten slate with an 0-3 start after just losing to Purdue 28-11 on Friday.
-Maryland opened the season with a 4-0 start, taking victories against Gardner-Webb, The Citadel, Morgan State and American.
-The Terrapins and Hoosiers have not faced off since January 2024 when Indiana won a thriller that came down to heavyweight, 21-15 at Wilkinson Hall.
-Maryland boasts four ranked wrestlers in their probable starters in No. 16 Braxton Brown (133), No. 7 Carter Young (149), No. 5 Jaxon Smith (184) and No. 15 Branson John (197).
BUCKEYE BATTLE:
-Indiana had a tough start to the Big Ten slate last weekend when it dropped the road dual 45-0.
-It was only the second dual loss of the season for the Hoosiers. The first was a 22-13 score at No. 15 Oklahoma in November.
-Ohio State took bonus points in seven of the ten matches to propel them to a decisive win.
RANKINGS REFRESH:
-Across the latest national rankings, Indiana has seven Hoosier wrestlers ranked in the top-33 at their weight class.
-This matches the most ranked wrestlers Indiana had at any point in last season's campaign, too.
-Indiana's ranked wrestlers include No. 12 Jacob Moran (125), No. 25 Henry Porter (141), No. 33 Bryce Lowery (157), No. 20 Tyler Lillard (165), No. 31 Derek Gilcher (174), No. 14 Sam Goin (184) and No. 13 Gabe Sollars (197).
-Prior to recent sets of rankings, Logan Frazier was ranked No. 33 at 133 lbs. by both InterMat and FloWrestling.
-As a team, Indiana ranks No. 23 with the best dual lineup according to InterMat and NWCA.
STRONG SHOWING AT MIDLANDS:
-For the second consecutive season, and the third of the last four seasons, Indiana competed in the prestigious Ken Kraft Midlands Championships from Dec. 29-30.
-Whether it be attached or unattached, the Hoosiers sent a combined 20 wrestlers to the tournament.
-Five Hoosiers earned their way on the podium: Henry Porter (141), Bryce Lowery (157), Derek Gilcher (174), Roman Rogotzke (184) and Gabe Sollars (197).
-Lowery got 2nd, Sollars got 3rd, Gilcher got 4th, Porter got 6th and Rogotzke got 7th. It was the first time on the podium at Midlands for Lowery, Porter and Rogotzke.
-Indiana finished in fifth place with 72.5 team points. It marked the second consecutive year that Indiana finished in the top five at the event, after finishing in fourth (95.5 points) in 2024.
