BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — Unbeaten, No. 2-ranked Indiana (8-0-2, 3-0-1 B1G) welcomes perhaps its greatest test yet. Maryland – ranked as high as No. 4 in the national polls – comes to town, setting up Friday (Oct. 2) night's top-five matchup on Jerry Yeagley Field at Bill Armstrong Stadium.
Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET. Fans unable to attend the match can watch via the Big Ten Network.
Friday is Student Appreciation Night. IU Soccer wants to thank Hoosier Army – the best student section in college soccer – for its relentless support with free pizza for students that arrive early, while supplies last. As always, IU students and faculty/staff get in free.
At halftime, Indiana men's soccer will honor three of its trailblazing teams: the 1974, 1975 and 1976 squads. The three squads combined for 45 victories in 54 matches and earned IU's first appearances in the NCAA Tournament (1974), College Cup (1976) and national championship match (1976).
KICKING OFF
• Indiana played its first two ranked matches in late September, earning a win and a draw. The Hoosiers beat No. 16 Washington at home, 1-0 – becoming the first team to shut out the Huskies this season – and drew with Wisconsin, 1-1, in Madison.
• Friday's marks the second match of a four-match homestand. IU is 7-0-0 at Bill Armstrong Stadium this season thanks to its loyal fanbase, which has managed a 3,756 average attendance.
• Indiana head coach Todd Yeagley and Maryland's Sasho Cirovski are the Big Ten's two greatest coaches outside Jerry Yeagley. No coach has won more matches in Big Ten play than Todd Yeagley (78), while Cirovski ranks third behind the Yeagleys in both No. of wins (54) and winning percentage (.631).
• IU's defensive performances have told the story of its unbeaten start, as the Hoosiers rank top of the Big Ten and tied-for-second nationally in goals against average (.500). Goalkeeper Michal Mroz leads the Big Ten in every major goalkeeping category.
• Indiana forward Stephane Njike has totaled five G/A in five games after assisting both goals in last Friday's 2-1 victory over Penn State. s
ABOUT THE TERRAPINS
• At 6-1-1, Maryland ranks all over the place in this week's national polls: No. 6 in United Soccer Coaches, No. 12 in Top Drawer Soccer and its highest rating at No. 4 from College Soccer News.
• Four Terrapins have combined for six Big Ten weekly awards this season.
• Said El Eyssami and Rodrigo Neri lead the team with four goals and nine points each.
