MINNEAPOLIS – Indiana freshman Liberty Clark is the runaway favorite in the 100-yard freestyle after tying the Big Ten Championship record Saturday (Feb. 21) morning during the final preliminary session of the 2026 Big Ten Women's Swimming and Diving Championships inside the Jane K. Freeman Aquatic Center on the campus of the University of Minnesota.
Twelve of Indiana's 16 finalists in the final session of the conference meet will come in championship heats as the Hoosiers eye the top two spots on the team leaderboard.
Clark's 46.57 was fastest from the morning heats by over a second, her time equaling Maggie MacNeil's mark from the 2020 Championships. A victory tonight would mark her second Big Ten title within her championship debut, having already won the 200-yard freestyle Thursday night. Clark is joined in the 100 free 'A' final by classmate Grace Hoeper, who threw down a personal best 48.11 in the morning, as well as senior Kristina Paegle (48.22).
Fellow freshman Alex Shackell claimed the top seed in the 200-yard butterfly with a program record 1:52.48. Shackell will face off against the Big Ten record holder, Michigan's Hannah Bellard, for the top spot. The freshman can sweep the butterfly events with a victory Saturday night. Senior Katie Forrester (1:57.24) will join her, and senior Chiok Sze Yeo (1:59.71) and Lily Hann (1:59.76) will swim the 'C' final.
Junior Miranda will look to make it three medals in three events as the No. 3 seed in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 1:52.16 after earning bronze in both the 100 back and 100 fly. Junior Macky Hodges (1:52.76) and senior Mya DeWitt (1:53.34) will make it three Hoosiers in the 'A' final.
Hodges will compete in two 'A' finals Saturday night, also earning the No. 5 seed in the 200 IM with a 1:57.03. Senior Reese Tiltmann captured the last championship final entry with a morning time of 1:57.41.
Diving will once again play a pivotal role in Indiana's jumping up the leaderboard, as four Hoosiers will score in the platform event. Junior Ella Roselli and sophomore Mary Kate Cavanaugh advanced to the championship final, and freshman Kaylee Bishop earned her third consolation final in three tries during her first championships. Junior Lily Witte will also score after finishing 21st in the morning.
Indiana will also have the top-ranked 400-yard freestyle relay Saturday night after it tied the Big Ten record in 3:08.07 during its final dual meet. The Hoosiers will look to grab the record outright and position themselves well for medal positions at the NCAA Championships.
