LOS ANGELES - No. 8 Indiana water polo dropped its MPSF opener at No. 2 UCLA on Friday at Spieker Aquatic Center, 17-8.

KEY MOMENTS
- Senior attacker Louisa Downes put Indiana (12-2, 0-1 MPSF) even with a 6-on-5 opportunity with 7:31 remaining but the Bruins (11-1, 2-0 MPSF) would build a 5-1 lead midway through the period. Sophomore attacker Gwenyth Le also converted on a 6-on-5 in the first as IU fell behind 5-2.
- Indiana got into a 8-2 deficit at the break, not scoring in the second quarter. Downes got the Hoosiers back on the board with 3:09 left in the third.
- In the fourth, IU scored four goals including a pair from senior attacker Grace Klingler.
NOTES
- Downes and Klingler finished with a team-high two goals each. Downees added four assists to have a team-high six points.
- Freshman center Kylie Williams finished with a goal and a team-high five drawn exclusions.
- Senior goalie Jasmine Higgs finished with eight saves.
- Klingler and Le each had a pair of steals.
