Hoosiers Rally Past Washington 4-3 for First Big Ten Victory

SEATTLE — The Indiana men's tennis team secured its first Big Ten win of the season in a tight 4-3 match today in Seattle against the Washington Huskies.
This match against Washington marked the third match in a row that went to a 4-3 final. Today, it was Aidan Atwood at No. 5 singles who fought his way back to win the final point and push the Hoosiers to victory. After losing the first set of the match 5-7, Atwood battled back against the Huskies' Hyeonseok Seo to win 6-3 in the second set and 7-5 in a third-set tiebreaker.
Indiana and Washington split the singles points 3-3, with Braeden Gelletich and Michael Andre securing the other two points for the Hoosiers. At No. 3 singles, Andre defeated Rohan Belday in straight sets, 6-2, 7-6 (7-2). At No. 4 singles, Gelletich defeated Brett Pearson by a score of 6-7 (5-7), 6-4, 6-3.
With Indiana splitting the singles points 3-3, the Hoosiers were able to secure the doubles point in the match to get to four points and win. The No. 57 team of Michael Andre and Matteo Antonescu cruised to a 6-1 victory over the Huskies' Daniel Bien and Nikola Plavsic, while Indiana's Sam Landau and Braeden Gelletich secured the doubles point with a 6-3 victory over Rohan Belday and Stephane Kamendje at No. 3 doubles.
Indiana improves to 7-6 on the season, and the Hoosiers will return home next weekend when they play Ohio State on Friday, Mar. 20, and Penn State on Sunday, Mar. 22.
