BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana rowing raced against challenging crews and adverse conditions on Friday (April 3), the first of two days at the Ohio State Regatta on the Griggs Reservoir in Columbus, Ohio.
Indiana's day was highlighted by its performances in the Varsity Eight and Third Varsity Eight races, where Hoosier crews captured head-to-head victories in each. Friday's start time was pushed back an hour to 5 p.m. ET due to windy conditions on the course.
IU's V8 held off a late charge from No. 19-ranked North Carolina. The Hoosiers led by two seconds at the 1,000-meter halfway mark. UNC made a move late, but IU's top boat was able to shut the door and finish in a time of 6:42.1, 1.7 seconds better than Carolina. No. 12-ranked UCF won that race in 6:35.5.
The 3V8 beat two of three opponents in its race. North Carolina had the top time in 7:06.5 in front of Indiana's 7:16.8. The Hoosiers built open water over the No. 20-ranked Ohio State boat, finishing almost 10 seconds later in 7:26.3, as well as the No. 13 Harvard-Radcliffe crew which crossed the line in 7:37.4.
Indiana will race Harvard-Radcliffe in five of six races Saturday morning beginning at 8:40 a.m. ET.
