Record 119 Hoosiers Make Big Ten Distinguished Scholar List

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — The Big Ten Conference announced Monday that 1,912 students on varsity rosters have earned the Big Ten Distinguished Scholar Award. The list includes students from all 18 institutions, plus Johns Hopkins and Notre Dame and 41 sports who have recorded a minimum grade-point average (GPA) of 3.7 or higher for the previous academic year.
The 2025-26 class of Distinguished Scholar Award Recipients includes 344 students who maintained a perfect 4.0 GPA during the previous academic year, represented in bold on the official list.
A school record 119 Indiana University student-athletes from earned Big Ten Distinguished Scholar honors.
"I am incredibly proud of the dedication shown by our record-breaking group of 119 Big Ten Distinguished Scholars this year," said IU Vice President and Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Scott Dolson. "Achieving this level of academic success while competing at the highest level of collegiate athletics is a testament to the commitment, work ethic, and focus of our student-athletes. They represent the very best of Indiana University, and we are honored to celebrate this achievement with them. Congratulations to our students as well as Executive Associate Athletic Director for Student Services and Senior Woman Administrator Lorian Price and our Academic Services team on this outstanding accomplishment."
Big Ten Faculty Representatives established the Distinguished Scholar Award in 2008 to supplement the Academic All-Big Ten program. Distinguished Scholar Award recipients must have earned Academic All-Big Ten recognition in the previous academic year, must have been enrolled full time at the institution for the entire previous academic year (two semesters or three quarters) and earned a minimum GPA of 3.70 or better during the previous academic year, excluding any summer grades. The Academic All-Big Ten threshold is a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher for a student's academic career.
