Compliance Question Of The Week
Compliance Question Of The Week
Question:
What is priority registration?
Answer:
Indiana University offers our student-athletes the opportunity to register early. This is a privilege and one that we need to take full advantage of. The benefits include having our choice of class times to avoid practice conflicts and to capitalize on the ideal sequencing for different majors. The fact that we register before the regular student body is actually a really good tidbit to share with your PSAs. The registration date to enroll in Fall 2012 classes is Tuesday, April 3rd.
Question:
What can prevent my student-athletes from utilizing this privilege?
Answer:
If a student-athlete is a first year who has not been admitted into a major, the issues they can run into are unpaid bursar bills, failure to submit immunization records or even unresolved issues with student-ethics or the residence halls. Upper classmen in certain majors will often have an advising hold placed on their account which indicates they need to make an appointment to see their campus advisor. It is important that our student-athletes realize that when they are admitted to their major, the Athletic Academic Advisor's role becomes secondary to the campus advisor. This meeting with their advisor in their major is important to have regardless of whether or not a hold is placed on their account.
Question:
What NCAA "Progress Toward Degree" requirements do the student-athletes need to be aware of?
