Sam Wendland is in his first year as an assistant coach with Indiana Wrestling and with the Indiana Regional Training Center. Wendland was previously a volunteer assistant with the Indiana wrestling program.
Prior to his arrival in Bloomington, Wendland spent two years as an assistant coach at Brighton High School in Brighton, Michigan and four years as an assistant coach at Michigan State.
Prior to his arrival in East Lansing, Wendland assisted at Bozeman (Mont.) High School for two seasons (2010-11, 2011-12) and helped the Hawks win the state championship in 2011. In 2009-10, Wendland served as a graduate assistant coach at Tiffin University and helped the Dragons transition into a NCAA Division II program.
Wendland served in various coaching roles following graduation and his collegiate career at Wyoming. From 2007-09, Wendland coached for Western State Colorado University (formerly Western State College of Colorado), coaching several NCAA Division II All-Americans and helping guide the Mountaineers to a NCAA Division II Regional team title in 2009.
Wendland was a four-year letterwinner at Wyoming (2003, '04, `05, `07) and won two West Regional/Western Wrestling Conference titles (184 pounds as a sophomore in 2004; 197 pounds as a senior in 2007). He qualified for the NCAA Championships in 2004 and 2007.
Wendland graduated with a bachelor's of science from Wyoming in 2007 and studied physical education.
