Ashley Hobbs is in her second season as a volunteer assistant coach with the Hoosiers this season. She was a senior pitcher last season for the Hoosiers after transferring from the University of Evansville, where she played for three seasons.
In her only season in the Cream and Crimson, the native of Brownsburg, Ind., appeared in 30 games and made 15 starts in the circle and went the distance seven times. She also hit .281 in 32 at bats, including a towering home run that cleared the scoreboard in left center field at Illinois. She also entered her name into the IU record book when she fanned 15 Michigan State Spartans to tie for eighth-most in a single game by an IU pitcher.
In three seasons at Evansville, Hobbs collected 27 wins and an era of 2.61 to go along with over 300 strikeouts. As a freshman, she burst onto the scene with 13 wins and three shutouts to lead the team and then followed that up with 11 wins, including four shutous, as a sophomore. Her junior year she tossed seven complete games in 13 starts.
A three-sport at Brownsburg High School, Hobbs was a first team all-state selection her senior year and holds 12 different records. She will graduate at the end of the spring semester with a degree as a fitness specialist.
SENIOR YEAR (2009)
Appeared in 30 games in her first season with the Hoosiers ... made 15 starts in the circle for the Hoosiers along with 10 as the designated player and three at first base ... hit .281 in 32 at bats with three doubles and one home run ... upped her average to .381 in Big Ten play ... had an ERA of 4.80 in 113.2 innings of work ... fanned 15 batters at Michigan State (4/12), which tied her for the eighth most in a single game in IU history with Amy Unterbrink ... she hit her home run at Illinois (4/15), a towering solo shot that cleared the scoreboard in left field ... finished the season on a five-game hit streak where she hit .500 (7-for-14) with three doubles ... tossed seven complete games and one shutout ... allowed just one unearned run against North Carolina State (2/15) in 3.2 innings of work ... surrendered just one hit in 2.2 innings of relief work against No. 4 Stanford (2/27) ... gave up one run on six hits in 6.2 innings of relief work against Hofstra (3/14) to pick up her first win in the circle ... held Ball State (4/22) off the scoreboard in five innings as the Hoosiers routed the Cardinals 8-0 to get her first shutout.
JUNIOR YEAR (2008 - at Evansville)
Appeared in 24 games in the circle for the Aces, making 13 starts ... went 3-6 with a 3.21 ERA ... posted seven complete games and one shutout and a team-high two saves ... also had two hits in eight at bats with a double and an RBI ... tossed a complete game three-hit shutout against Wichita State ... went the distance in a five-inning rout of Arkansas-Pine Bluff, allowing one run on three hits ... tossed all six innings of a 10-2 win over McNeese State to get her first win of the season.
SOPHOMORE YEAR (2007 - at Evansville)
Tied for the team lead in wins on the mound finishing with an 11-9 record ... led the team throwing 156 innings in 32 appearances and 127 strikeouts ... was second on the team with a 2.69 ERA ... opponents hit just .236 off of her leading the Aces pitching staff ... pitched a complete game shutout giving up only three hits in win over Missouri State ... went ten innings and earned a shutout victory striking out ten against Bradley on April 15 ... struck out nine in a complete game shutout against St. Louis on April 25.
FRESHMAN YEAR (2006 - at Evansville)
Recorded a team-best 13-9 on the mound ... led the team with 34 appearances, 30 starts, 167.1 innings pitched, 127 strikeouts and 2.22 ERA ... tied single-game high nine strikeouts against Creighton on 3-25-06.
