Dr. Jonathan Benedek serves as the Assistant Athletic Director for Business Analytics for IU Athletics. In this role Benedek oversees the Department’s apparel/equipment operations and assists in managing the University’s partnership with adidas. He also works closely with other strategic business partners, such as Legends Global Merchandise (retail partner) and Levy (food service partner). Additionally, Benedek provides business strategy and analysis for the Pfau Golf Course and on other revenue-generating initiatives for the Department.
Prior to his current position, Benedek spent 12 years working in the marketing department for IU Athletics, beginning as a student intern and most recently as the Senior Director of Marketing. He has been a member of the National Association of Collegiate Marketing Administrators (NACMA) since 2014 and served as the Big Ten Conference marketing representative during the 2020-2021 athletic year. The IU Athletics marketing department was the recipient of eight NACMA awards during his tenure.
Benedek completed his PhD from Indiana University in 2020, with his doctoral dissertation focusing on strategic marketing. His scholarly research and academic writings have been published in the Journal of Issues in Intercollegiate Athletics, the International Journal of Sport Management, the Encyclopedia of Sport Management, Sport Marketing in a Global Environment, and SAGE Business Cases. Benedek holds a Master’s degree and Bachelor’s degree from Indiana University as well. Since 2013 he has also served the IU Bloomington campus as an adjunct faculty member/sport management course instructor.
